Prayers to the family, friends, and all involved. I hate reading such bad news stories.

May GOD be with this Family, his friends, and this Football community!!! My heart aches for this tragedy!!!

One of the sadest days in our community. My daughter was a friend of his. She and her friends are devastated. Praying for the coaches and family of this fine young man.

I have no words, prayers for his family and friends.

I was told that they were picking up the apparatus to move it on or off the practice field and somehow or other it managed to fall on him. That being the case, I'm guessing he tripped and fell and then the equipment was accidentally dropped on him?

This is something that every high school, college, even NFL teams use and do (group efforts to move the the chutes, and just short distances at that); have since their existence.

 

"Freak incident" doesn't even do this horrific tragedy any justice. It's beyond that....if such a thing.

Some chutes are big and heavy, even beefier than the one pic you posted. The top of the chute slides down over the four legs and are held in place with quick release type pins. Think of the legs of a pop up canopy but the legs are about 2-3" round steel and as you go to raise and lower the top you have pick up the legs and move them in or out. For the top think of a tubular steel farm gate.

If that's how it went down, I can only imagine what thoughts have to be going through the heads of the other guys that were helping to carry and move the chutes. 'What could I have done differently to have stopped it from happening?' Those kinds of thoughts would haunt anyone...

..all I know is this, "Move the chutes" is something I've heard (HS, College, NFL training camps), said (as a coach) and done (as a coach and player) more times than I could ever begin to count. And, something that is done in every football organization across the country.

 

If you had asked me or anybody else that's been around this game their entire lives to give a list of "100 Ways All Things "football" Could Endanger Lives", this would have never entered mine nor anybody elses mind(s).

....matter of fact; you could name 1,000 things (not that it could ever be done) & it wouldn't ever crack that list.
