Some people just dont understand, do they?

If this cut that was made was due to attitude problems I can understand. If this is the case, this kid must have had one bad attitude.

From my experiences with Boyd County baseball, A good portion of why you are treated a certian way by the coaching staff comes from not only how talented you are and the type of attitude you have, but how much your parents contribute to the program as well. I think a lot of former BC baseball players would tell you the same...

That's another one of the problems with the coaches. Kids aren't running to tell mommy on the coaches they're running to tell mommy to get out there and paint some buildings and plow some field up so they can get some playing time or atleast the honor of sitting the bench on varsity games.

The "will work for PT for my child" obligation hasnt always worked. I am familiar with an instance in which a parent totally dedicated time, money, and effort to the program and had so for many years. SR season rolls around and the child is relegated to mop up pitching duties and some spot time at first. Years prior the child had been everyday starter/ starting pitcher. He got bumped by some up and coming younger player. My point being that just because a parent puts some extra effort into the program, doesnt mean the coach will play the kid.

 

As for an earlier post concerning CJ. He was always an above average player from rookie league on. Baseball has been his life since he was old enough to throw a ball and he was good at it. That is a totally different situation than someone being on JV when they are a JR and told to look for something else for next season. Which is what I thought this thread was about???

 

Do you think if Jordan (Michael) hadnt got cut that he would have had the drive to be as successful as he was? Who knows. But I do know that sometimes coaches use various strategies to motivate players. If a coach has tried every method he knows and still no success, I can see why he/ she would use the "look for something else" method. If the player gives up then you're only out a SR who might possibly have a bad attitude because he's not playing more. If he busts his tail to prove you wrong then you've got a much imporved player who can contribute to the team his SR year.

 

Of course, this is only my opinion.

I actually have no vested interest in this "discussion" BUT.....

why is that parents that volunteer their time and efforts always get slapped in the face? Why is it that the parents who never turn a hand to do field work, or fund raising, or WHATEVER, always complain about the ones that do? Has anyone considered that some parents actually are interested in the sports programs without the need for reward? I know it causes great distress to some but believe it or not, alot of kids who's parents do volunteer actually are talented kids with or without involved parents. It's just a fact!! My theory is, if ya think the garbage needs picked up or the building needs painted, don't sit and gripe about the guy who does it, grab a bag or a brush and help out-NO WHINING!!:irked:

We're talking about a school though, where the Coach sets up the schedule for the concession stand and tells them, you dont work it your kid doesn't play.

I'm also talking about school and I would find it hard to believe that ANY coach would ever say anything of the sort. It's been my experience that whether or not a parent works, the best kids will play. I'm not stupid, I know there are "politics" everywhere and usually it all comes out in the "wash". Patience is a virtue, remember that. I have found over the years that there are kids whose parents have busted their tails, got fed up with all the complaining and stopped, and their kid still started and played every game, every sport.

You may find it hard to believe ANY coach would say it, but I've heard it said directly from the coaches mouth, not hearsay.

Well, I can't argue that you didn't hear it yourself and that's too bad-not a good practice for anyone

Was this from the high school coaches? Or from summer league coaches?

I believe concession stand work SHOULD be required of all parents (provided they are physically able) if their child is on the team. Field work and grounds maintenance are all another story. I see no reason why every parent cant contribute one night. How many home games a year? How many players on the team? I would think that no one parent would have to work more than 2 home games.

Cheers Eddie-ALL parents should be asked to work but not given the "work or else" option.

And volunteers are simply that-most of us don't expect anything in return but do not deserve criticism from those who sit back and complain
