Anyone hear any details on this one? I had a parent tell me that they told some players "very good" players not to bother trying out next year in between games on Saturday morning. If that's true, then that's one sad way to handle things. :confused:

"Very good" is in the eyes of the beholder.

Well if it's the kid they said he has one of the top hitting averages for the JV this year. That's why I was so shocked to hear it.

Maybe this was just a way to get the kid to work harder in the offseason. Did they play bad on saturday? Was this following a win or a loss?

after a loss, but they've had a lot of those this year, that's why I dont see cut'n your best hitter. I could see telling them work harder for next season's tryouts but to say, don't bother try'n out next year. And they cut several that day of the older kids, these weren't the 7th graders on the team it was the jrs.

I have no idea who the player was, but I would ask if there might have been an attitude problem?

 

Again, I'm not saying that is the case, since I don't even know who we are talking about. Just asking...

nah wasn't attitude problems, just final evaluations for the kids.

Must be nice to have that kind of talent that you can decide for the next year that you don't want kids to even come and tryout. I know Boyd has a wonderful program but they haven't been that dominate have they? What happens if a kid picks up 4 inches,25 pounds and 15 mph on his fastball? Still going to tell him you don't want him? Will he even want to play? I have seen dozens of young men come into their own after their freshman and sophmore seasons and turn out to be excellent high school and even collegiate players. Something doesn't sound right.

Think we ought to ask the coach first. Cant believe everything you hear.

I can believe it, esp if it was Ramsey that said it. He had that same kind of attitude when he was at Raceland also.

I'm not a BC personn but have heard this exact thing for years from many different adults in the BC system.

 

I've always wondered whether coaches that do this just can't face cutting a senior at tryouts of his last year or if they are so enamored with "choosing" and cultivating the next great superstar so as to build up their coaching resume.

 

Everyone has to face being told they aren't good enough at some point but as others noted, kids can develop physically AND emotionally in a short period of time at this stage. How many of us know someone who was out of HS before they developed physically etc?

 

IMO since it's the end of JV season it is not the JV coaches right to do this. It concerns the "next" season so it's the head coach's call - he should allow the Sr. to work towards his last season and see if he can make the varsity or go to him and tell him personally face to face

First I would like to say welcome to BGPreps, nice to have some more BC Fans here.

 

Secondly, it is nice to have BC fans, but why get on here and bash the football program and the baseball program in your first 10 posts. This is our problem at Boyd....Everyone, and I mean everyone thinks they are coaches and thinks they know everything about every sport. I am sick of hearing about this coach did this and this coach did that. Everyone needs to grow up and let their kid be accountable for their lack of effort. So many parents in this County want to make their kid believe that some Coach somewhere cheated them out of something. Instead the Parent should be pushing their kid to be better.

 

Yes, some of the kids that were cut might have been JR's. But have you ever stopped to think that these players have had YEARS to prove themselves and even all of this Season. I hate to bust everyones bubble but the younger players played much better on the JV this year and deserve a spot.

 

Like I said, everyone needs to let their little babies off the bottle and let them grow up a bit. Teach them responsibility and morals and not that something was stole away from them or someone cheated them.:mad:

Kinda funny, I have had 5 Raceland parents tell me that they wished he was back at Raceland. Must had been one of the other ones you talked to. By the way, they got a pretty nice team this year.:thumb:

Keep in mind that Boyd's team was very young this year and these so called "Very good" players are said to be JR's. Sr's cannot play JV, so if they are JR's playing on the JV then chances are they wont make the team anyway, since Boyd is so young now.

I heard this same thing as well, BCRules.

 

The coach told a few players to find "another sport," and don't even both coming back next season. Pretty harsh if you ask me, considering the boys he told this to are very good boys who have great attitudes and work their butts off.
