Another case of do as a Law Enforcement officer tells you and you dont have an issue, but there are those in this world that refused to follow orders from Law Enforcement, its a shame.

3 miles from campus was my understanding.

Three miles is too far, IMO.

Why is that? Why should we limit them to strictly the campus.

Many city officers have county wide jurisdiction in KY depending on the size of their cities. Should we reduce their jurisdiction areas?

If there are defined boundaries (campus, city, county), then yes, jurisdictions should be limited. A UofL cop has no business in St. Matthews (as an example).

And why? What if all the UofL cops are miles off campus for whatever reason... Who is protecting the campus?

Nope, my guess is both sides will see what they want to see.

From an officer's perspective it isn't that you see what you want to see, it is if you error on the side of caution you may end up dead and if you error on the side of aggression the other party may end up dead.

It is certainly one of, if not the most difficult skill, that any human being has to perform in a split second.

Do campus cops go through the same amount of training as other officers?

Routine police work often takes you a little outside of your normal area/jurisdiction.

Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong but yes I believe they do.

A little is fine. Three miles outside a campus jurisdiction is farther than a little. That's like 15 blocks.

I think it's hard to put a number on it. I don't have an issue with them pursuing an issue that takes them out of their jurisdiction.

Say there's a shooting on campus and the shooter hops in a car and takes off, should the campus officers not follow because it takes them out of their jurisdiction?

No, they call Metro and let them know they are in pursuit and request back up.

So what about a license plate violation? Pretty low on the list of priorities for me.

Oh I agree. Did they first spot the car on campus though and follow off? That could explain it. :idunno:

Spotted him at Vine and McMillian near the UC campus and pursued him for about a half of a mile according to the article.

Like Hilary says, what does it matter at this point?

This guy was bound to have his Jimmy Shaker day at some point.
