Homes floating away in Johnson County

Featured Replies

Went to Raceland yesterday evening for an Odd Fellows (I know, I know) district meeting. Drove through a monsoon most of the way there.

Reminded me of a children's book by George Ella Lyons.

Some portions of Johnson County were wiped out. Two confirmed dead, a few people still missing.

Sad news.

Have a buddy that live in the sticks in Johnson Co in a double wide on a small flat spot right next to a creek, so I can see how this can happen. I hope he's ok.

I have 7 coaching friends in Johnson Co, I havent been able to get ahold of any of them.

Wow, our thoughts and prayers are with those affected. Horrible situation to find yourself in.

Power, phone, internet, cell service is out for much of that county right now. Hopefully they are all OK.

When it flooded really bad in Louisville a few weeks ago, I saw first hand just how quick that water can come up, and how much damage it can do. Very scary.

Sure hate it for those folks. And for the life of me I don't understand why you wait til the last minute to get the frig outta there. In this day and age, there's no excuse not to vacate.

Flash flooding in the middle of the night. It can happen really quickly sometimes in the hills and hollers in EKY.

I have been through Flat Gap several times. Not a lot of flat land up in that area, and where ever you can find some a building of some sort, many times homes are built on it. It lots of times goes hand in hand with a small creek or stream near by. A good shower and those small streams can get a lot bigger...a torrential downpour and something that's normally 8 foot wide and knee deep starts looking more like an angry Mississippi.

I used to live there. I get it. Been up all night before with a huge rainfall making preparations just in case. That was before my cell phone would scare the crap out of me with a national alert, which is available to all of them including the videographer.

Would that be Local 151 behind the firehouse?
