July 8, 201511 yr Sanctuary cities are a travesty and the fed gov't needs to crack down on them. But, we KNOW the Obama administration isn't going to do that, so I won't hold my breath. Didn't Lexington "brag" a few years ago about being a sanctuary city? Seems I remember some talk/uproar about that. Are they considered one? The only way I've ever heard of Lexington being a "Sanctuary City" is for homosexuals who got run out their small-town hometowns or found the environment in them so hostile that returning there wasn't an option after college.

July 10, 201511 yr Correct but all illegals are criminals I don't disagree with that. I've come around a little. Most are people just looking for a better life. They are still breaking the law. I'm not against a path to citizenship. But they shouldn't cut the line of people doing it legally.
July 10, 201511 yr When there is a conflict, federal law trumps local laws. The public administrators in SF are responsible for execution of their duties in a professional, ethical and legal way. I don't see how they could be doing that.

We have a ton of illegal Canadians bc of this also but they just blend in better

July 10, 201511 yr If there is a civil suit by this lady's family against the city, could we see the end of sanctuary cities? They certainly have a case since San Francisco was in violation of federal law.

The Irish are another nationality that blend in well and go undocumented. We like to focus on Mexico and Nicaragua, Columbia, Guatamala, but illegal immigration isn't cornered by the Spanish speaking world populace.

That is how my grandparents got here to be honest....Ireland through Canada.

But let's not act like Irish people are coming in large numbers to America illegally in 2015. By sheer numbers Latinos make up a large majority of the illegal population.
July 11, 201511 yr The Border will get closed and we will get serious about border security AFTER the next 9/11 happens and it is proven that the Terrorist just walked across our southern border. Until that happens any discussion about immigration reform is fruitless. My fear is that if another major terrorist attack happens that our Government will keep their path of entry away from the American public if they did indeed come across the southern border. I don't trust either side to do anything about securing the border either.

The estimate is 50k. May not seem like a lot, but I was very, very surprised how high the number was.
