Bill Clinton signed into law in 1996 that cities had to cooperate with the Feds and many cities, including San Francisco, openly defy the law. Obama has said he will not punish cities for doing so. My question is when did cities get to decide which federal laws it wants to obey?

If San Francisco (and many other cities) want to totally give the Feds the finger on enforcing a federal immigration law, as long as it follows the liberal line of thinking, it is OK. We live in a really screwed up world. And Katie Steinle paid for it with her life. The Feds told SF to hold the creep who shot her because he had been deported 5 TIMES and had 7 ARRESTS/CONVICTIONS...and SF said no and let him go. I find this whole sanctuary city stuff absolutely incredible and am amazed people defend it...

If the feds pursue one entity and not the other would there be a cause for a discrimination complaint based on religious beliefs?

The county clerks are withholding something, a service they are legally bound to perform, based on their beliefs. They are perpetuating discrimination. A sanctuary city isn't discriminating against anyone. Ultimately, that's all it really comes down to.

I am conservative and totally proud of it. My brother in law is liberal and totally proud of it and I consider him my best friend. We discuss political things and disagree often but always get along after. I also love the posts of McPapa and PP92 even if I don't agree with them that often politically. But I am confused as to why even the most liberal folks would be OK with the theory behind Sanctuary Cities. I just don't get it. I know why Obama and SF is OK with it...potential voters down the road. But the average citizen in a Sanctuary City...do you want these creeps that have been deported numerous times and have felony convictions coming to your town because they know the city will protect them? Crazy...AND totally illegal.

If both disobey a federal law and govt only goes after one you can bet there will be a claim of discrimination. I think they would have a case.

I get we can't find all 12 million illegals and ship them off. But how can the federal government allow this guy to flaunt breaking the law on national tv ?

The city officials take an oath to uphold laws. They are ignoring them. They do have a shining example to follow in the Obama administration for ignoring laws.
July 8, 201511 yr Sanctuary cities are a travesty and the fed gov't needs to crack down on them. But, we KNOW the Obama administration isn't going to do that, so I won't hold my breath. Didn't Lexington "brag" a few years ago about being a sanctuary city? Seems I remember some talk/uproar about that. Are they considered one?
