KHSAA Bylaw 9-2

Featured Replies

A mentor of mine who has been coaching longer than I have been alive said the rule is in place to try and make more kids play football in the fall. Said the football coaches will never allow it to be changed.

I believe this but with that said why do they allow AAU tourneys in the spring and not give more kids a chance at baseball? Last year KBA held a tourney at the same time as the boys state tourney. I thought this was crazy and should never happen. How does KHSAA allow this?

Similarly, Baseball plays fall ball all through the time that kids are not allowed to play basketball.

I believe Girls basketball has a weekend that they can participate in an event (well into the school calendar).

In the bylaw, it is stated that there was a certified weekend in late September that allows girls basketball players to play that weekend.

It's not just baseball. Wrestling, volleyball, softball and other sports all have games, matches, tournament, major events that take place during that time period. It seems silly to specifically target basketball with this rule.

If the kid is good enough to play somewhere, the scouts will see it during the season. GET OFF MY LAWN! :D

Can you imagine the outrage, the wailing, the nashing of teeth if there was a weekend for boys and not girls? What's the logic behind this? Pick a date, any date and make it for boys and girls.

It's a dumb rule. Imagine if there was an academic rule similarly.

academic rule?

Might sound dumb but couldn't this be a Title IX violation? KHSAA is giving girls more of an opportunity in a same sport.

It has to do with the evaluation period of the NCAA.

That's the inequality of the Title IX "equality" movement. It only ensures that females get the same or more than boys. So no it is not a Title IX violation but it would be it were for boys only and the girls didn't have one.

This is the dumbest rule I've ever heard of. If they punished a kid for attending a college camp In August I would sue not only the khsaa but each person on their board individually including that idiot Tackett.

Been a rule for as long as I can remember.

I would have to believe if enough high school basketball coaches actually fought to get a slight change of the rule to apply a date of September 1 or even Sept 15 so it is applied evenly across all schools it would pass. Maybe nobody has even tried, and it will take membership to effect change. September 15 would still give a dead period of 30 days before the start of high school basketball season and September 1 would even be more days.
