Then their priorities aren't in the best interest of the boys getting to the next level !! Club ball would put a stop to this real quick.

The kids should come first. There's no excuse and no logical reasoning for such a rule.
 Agreed!!!

Just because it was a rule in the 70's or 80's doesn't make it good for today's game. Things have changed so much. So basically if Laurel county schools start on August 1st and Clay County Schools start August 8th and there is a camp on August 4th then Clay can go but Laurel cant. Crazy. In the 1800's they could hang you for horse thieving , let's just go back to that

Do you have any insight as to why the coaches are in favor of this rule?

In all reality, this rule only applies to less than five percent of all of the boys basketball players in the state. This rule effects about 15-20 players statewide. John Lucas camp and the college "elite" camps are invitation only. It excludes the majority of basketball players that can go to camp. The rich get richer. With that said, it's still a dumb rule.

Probably because it gets them away from their "evil AAU coach" sooner....

So there was a proposal passed last year to allow camps at NCAA and NAIA institutions any time in August. This proposal is awaiting final approval which is expected this week.

This would allow student athletes in Kentucky to attend college elite camps in August.

This would not, however, allow student athletes to attend camps like the John Lucas camp because they are not sponsored by an NCAA or NAIA college or university.

Somebody post the results of final approval when they hear confirmation of the vote. That is at least a start of reform and a good change as attending elite camps where you have specifically been invited is a source of offers being extended.

If the kid is good enough to play somewhere, the scouts will see it during the season. GET OFF MY LAWN! :D

I beg to differ.

...and that is your right. :woot:
