11 Sep - Ironton (OH) vs Beechwood

Featured Replies

Great idea. That would be great double header and a worthy road trip for fans. BW makes two lengthy road trips (Somerset and Ironton) within 7 days. I wonder how many BW fans will make both trips?

The Ironton newspaper has this game confirmed for September 11th. It also goes on to mention the last time these two teams met in 2008. The lights went out twice at Ironton's stadium with Beechwood ahead 21-20. Supposedly, the Ironton AD offered to put BW up in a hotel and finish the game on Saturday morning but BW elected to head for home. Is it unusual that Beechwood would schedule significant road trips on consecutive weekends since the Somerset game is September 4th?

Weird coincidence category - if you go to google maps and plug in Ft. Mitchell to Ironton it says 2 hour 23 minutes. If you do Ft. Mitchell to Somerset, it is also 2 hours 23 minutes.

Ironton returns some big boys from last year on the line and return 2 rbs that are over 210 pounds.

Ironton is still one of my favorite stadiums of all time...town has the "varsity blues" type feel on Friday nights when they play a home game.

Just looked up their stadium and did see that they look to have done some upgrades, adding paint and turf.

I agree with you about Tank Stadium and that it's a football town. Both Ironton and Raceland have that type of feel. The t.v. series "Friday Night Lights" is lived out, alive and well in both towns.

This should be a great game, Irontons backfield will be a load this season. I can't wait to see this game. The new Turf field is awesome and was much needed.

Who were key players on that 1998 squad?

Love Tank Stadium. Where does Ironton continue to find those huge backs? Should be a great game. The atmosphere there is fantastic.

Great football region. I believe neighboring Portsmouth had an NFL franchise that became the Detroit Lions. I have many friends in the Detroit area that would like to see the Lions return to Portsmouth.

You are correct, the franchise that became the lions originated in Portsmouth. Your also right about it being a great football region, that portion of southern Ohio loves their football.

Returning starting Line

SR - C/NG - Brock Midkiff-Sands 5'11 260

SR - G/DE Klaiber 6'0 215

JR - G/DT Webb 6'5 280

SR - T/DT Hankins 6'1 290

SR - T/DT Robinson 6'2 295

SR - E/DE Campbell 6'5 210

Wow! That's a big line for sure. BW will have to hope for warm weather and "out stamina' them if that is even possible.
