I'm hearing that the Ironton Fighting Tigers (OH) will be facing the Beechwood Tigers on 11 Sep. This fills Irontons schedule for this coming season. I can't wait to see this game. Ironton will be loaded in the backfield and a good portion of the Line returning, should be a much improved Fighting Tiger Team from last year.

 

How is Beechwood looking to be this year, how many returning starters do they have from the State semi finals Team from last season?

It's @ Ironton. I have suggested to my friends at Ironton to name this game, "The Illumination Bowl". Also, it should be a blackout by the Ironton fans. Game should be sponsored by American Electric Power and/or Mag-Lite. I suggested raffles for flashlights and lightbulbs. Just think of the money that could be made off t-shirts, etc.

I agree. Somehow my, "too soon?", didn't come out right. I was saying it was too soon......just incorrectly.

The Ironton newspaper has this game confirmed for September 11th. It also goes on to mention the last time these two teams met in 2008. The lights went out twice at Ironton's stadium with Beechwood ahead 21-20. Supposedly, the Ironton AD offered to put BW up in a hotel and finish the game on Saturday morning but BW elected to head for home. Is it unusual that Beechwood would schedule significant road trips on consecutive weekends since the Somerset game is September 4th?

The Ironton Fighting Tigers found a name out of the past to fill their open third week.

 

Ironton and Beechwood, Ky., have agreed to play in the Sept. 11 date at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

 

Ironton and Beechwood met in the infamous 1998 game at Tanks Stadium in which part of the lights went out twice — once before the game and then in the second quarter.

 

Beechwood was leading 21-20 and elected to go home instead of finish the game, even after athletic director Mike Burcham offered to put the team up in a hotel for the night and finish the game at noon on Saturday.

I either never knew or had forgotten Ironton offered to pay for the Beechies to stay in a hotel to finish the game the next day.

Probably. I imagine most schools have money set aside for situations like this. Ashland offered to put NCC up in a hotel last season when there was a flash flood prior to the game.

Should be a great game. I don't know how strong that Ironton will be this season but they a tradition filled program and even in a "bad" year for them , they are usually very good. Beechwood, like Ironton is a traditional power and imo are the top class A Team in Kentucky this season.

This one will be a good chance for Raceland to get an up close and personal look at Beechwood in case needed for game prep in the very last class A game of the season in KY. for 2015.

BTW .... Would be nice if either the Raceland / GC game or the Ironton / Beechwood could possibly be moved to that Saturday, 12th. Should that happen then I could about promise a jump in this game's attendance ... with being located right across the river from Ironton, Raceland fans would probably flock to this one.
