I would think that is the case. Like I said, that race to get all the group pictures inside a song is the way to go. A fun and FAST way to get a snap shot of all the guests.:thumb:

Wife and I did a cool thing. We took a picture with every guest/guest family in the lobby of the church after the wedding. (side note we actually had to kill about an hour between end of wedding time and start time of reception so this worked for that as well) When we sent the thank you cards out, we included the picture with it. Everyone loved it.

That's why you put it in the same room as everything else.

Mrs. TAC told the DJ that if he played "Mony Mony" he would not get paid for the event. Fresh out of college with a ton of revelers there, she did not want her dad to hear the made up chorus that tends to get sung to that song.

We feed 500 folks that evening. 9 half barrels, a case of booze. Flowers were amazing and a gift from her relatives who are florists. Catering was done by her aunt and another family friend who worked at the school and is was done at cost, something crazy like $2.25 a plate. We did not do the receiving line and pictures were done in a hurry. Mrs. TAC said it was our night to celebrate, and we enjoyed the evening.

Here is how we pulled it off.

 

Photographer - A great friend whom I have done business with in Photography through my Sports associations Im involved in did the photography for a very reasonable fee.

 

Flowers - didn't have any, wife didn't want any, She did put out some big bow looking things for the wedding that someone had given her.

 

Tuxes - Got a decent deal on those.

 

Cake - Wife, (who many know is a baker) refused to have anyone else make her wedding cake. So her and 2 of her bridesmaids got together and made the cake and for the guest they had their own mini wedding cake cupcakes. (wife actually had orders to make 4 cakes about a month out before the wedding, those paid for the supplies for our cake.

 

DJ - didn't have one. We request songs with the invitations, Wife and a friend of hers put them all together in a play list. The reception hall had a sound system set up, plugged in a computer to run the playlist and one of my friends made sure it kept playing. worked great.

 

Food/Reception Hall - Biggest expense obviously, but was very reasonable. Had a 2 meat choice, 3 sides, salad, all done buffet style. Now we didn't have alcohol (there were several reasons why)

 

 

Biggest reasons we didnt spend a large amount of money on the wedding......We didnt let others try to plan/tell us what we wanted.

Funny Story, remember when they would leave the little disposable cameras out on the table and ask guest to take pictures.

 

Well, at one wedding of a guy from college, he came up to a bunch of us and asked us if we would run out and get a few things that were either forgotten or didn't know they needed till right then. Anyways me and a 2 other guys, went out to get the stuff but we took 2 of the cameras with us.

 

 

So mixed in with reception pics was random pictures of cars going down the road, things at Walmart I dont remember what all we took.

I have not yet been to a wedding with a photo booth. But here a really cool thing my niece and her groom did. DJ announced that the bride and groom had until the end the song "Freeze Frame", to go around to as many tables as they could and take group shots. But your table had to be all posed and ready or bridal couple was not going to come to your table. This required all table guests to quickly assemble for a picture, then the bride and groom ran over to pop in the picture and photographer snapped the photo.

 

It was so fun and frenzied and required so much guest interaction. DJ did play extra bars of the song so that the couple was able to quickly get a picture at every single table. And I did observe a couple crazy uncles going around and photobombing like it was their job. :lol2:

 

At our Wedding 21 years ago, my wife's uncle and close family friend did photobombs. They appeared in nearly every group picture including those of my family. They pretty much followed the photographer around and jumped in every table photo. At another wedding on my wife's side of the family, the bride and groom had placed disposable camera's at every table. Same Uncle and friend took selfies with every single camera.

I had a good friend go to the beach with just immediate family and get married. He spent a week there as part of his honeymoon. He then came home and threw a big farm party for the celebration with a pig roast. He had a band and it was very casual. Best wedding reception I have been to. Cheap, redneckish, and a lot of fun.

For what people pay for weddings these days, you could put a sizeable down payment for a house.

I could take or leave having a photobooth at a wedding, although I could see why the bride and groom might like having copies of all the pictures after the fact. I will say, though, that when my sister got married, they couldn't find a photo booth for any less than $1300. That's too rich for my blood.

We were lucky to have about 10 family/friends' weddings between our engagement and wedding. We picked what we liked from everyone's ceremony and discarded some traditional things we felt slowed the evening down. We did some funny "blends" - served food at the tables, family style in large bowls or on platters rather than sit-down or buffet. Officially had a cash bar, but it was only $1 for a shot or mixed drink with free beer, wine, tea and soda. Everyone who was used to a cash bar thought it was a bargain, and those used to an open bar thought that was still reasonable. What we "took in" almost covered the bar bill in the end. We had a small cake for show, which we cut before dinner, but there were three big sheet cakes in the back that were waaaay cheaper that the traditional elaborate set up.

 

Thinking about our 25th anniversary party now, wondering how much more that is gonna cost than the wedding did!!
