June 24, 201511 yr There's an old line about people that go to auctions. We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like. Not sure if this is apples to apples or not. Think Granny Smith to Red Delicious.
June 24, 201511 yr If "Flashlight" or some other P-Funk tune wasn't among your requests, I'm not going to be mad. Just disappointed. It made the list.
June 24, 201511 yr My only issue with the photo booth is it takes A LOT of the guests attention if you put it in a side room or separate room. Tons of people will just hang out in that area. My cousin last summer planted her photo booth on the way from the banquet room to the head. Brilliant!
June 24, 201511 yr Is she having a church wedding? Sure is. Just not sure which. St. Mary on the Woods gets my vote...but my vote doesn't count. :lol2:
June 28, 201511 yr If "Flashlight" or some other P-Funk tune wasn't among your requests, I'm not going to be mad. Just disappointed. To say this wasn't a funky crowd would be an understatement. Jut me and the DJ knew the song. Damn, hipsters.
June 28, 201511 yr Great idea at a wedding last night. I'm in the camp that 90% of wedding cakes are average at best. Very, very rarely do I say "wow - that's a great cake." Last night the bride and groom skipped the cake and had 24 dozen donuts brought in from Holtman's. Love that idea.
June 28, 201511 yr Somebody sent me a PM about the mini wedding cakes. Forgot who it was and I deleted the message (my bad). But here are some pics of the mini wedding cakes.

June 29, 201511 yr One of the things I am 100% old-fashioned about is having the wedding IN a church. Before anyone says "well what about.." yes I know having it IN the church is no guarantee for its success. Save the keystrokes. I have friends who got married on a boats, on a beach, etc. They're happily married. I get it. I like a church wedding.
June 29, 201511 yr Author Not a bad idea. Cakes and flowers are over-rated IMO. Agree. We were at a wedding with cupcakes. Nice idea but too messy. I like the idea donuts, brownies, or cookies. Something you can eat without a mess.
June 29, 201511 yr Wedding last night (daughter was a bridesmaid) was at the Catholic church just down the road from Lexington Catholic High School. Probably a little over 300 in attendance. Wedding was much more informal that I would have guessed going in. Reception at the Boone Center on the U.K. campus. Nice venue with a small courtyard for the music and dancing. Nothing real fancy as far as eats, but plenty of it. Open bar, which cost a pretty penny. Just the wedding party's bar tab at the rehearsal dinner the night before was in the neighborhood of $2K. Daughter gave the maid of honor's speech/toast because the MOH chickened out. Fun time. I enjoyed watching some of the 60-somethings busting moves.
June 30, 201511 yr We had a small wedding cake made, then did cupcakes. Much cheaper and by the time we cut everyone was more interested in drinking and having fun.
June 30, 201511 yr A cool idea that our friends did at their wedding was have individual cakes at each table when people got to the reception. That way there wasn't the hassle of finding the cake and everyone going to get it. You could eat it whenever you wanted. They even personalized the cakes, as they put Happy Birthday messages on a few for those in attendance who's birthday it was.

I'll be in my 18th wedding here in a few weeks (not in a church) so there have been a few of them. But I can't stand church weddings.

Although i understand why some people may not.
