Could be a little tougher for Belfry now.

 

I think it will be tougher than the past two years because you add one more quality opponent.

 

Breathitt's fall the past two seasons really made the Region a whole lot easier. Belfry's path in 3A until 2013 and 2014 definitely was made easier by the lack of a Top 10 quality team in the opposite District. Do I think it would have changed anything if this current alignment was in place those past two years? Absolutely not.

 

I still expect Belfry to be 2 TD's or more better than anyone on the Eastern side this season... though Russell being in Belfry's region adds a third Top 10 team (Lawrence County will be strong).

 

I also expect Belfry to be the prohibitive favorite next year with what they will have back..but I anticipate the gap to tighten a little more.

 

2017 is a whole different animal... I think Corbin is going to be very strong come then.

Again I am a Fayette Co. public and private homer and I can only see 3 teams advancing deep in the playoffs. Prediction for Lafayette (6-4, 7-3 ) losing in the 2 nd round of 6A. LexChristian Academy ( 8-2, 7-3 ) perhaps a district title, but losing in the 2A regional final. Lexington Catholic ( 7-3 ) toss up between them and Boyle Co for the district and a toss up in the regional 3A. Now I know LC has had BC's number in the last few years. LC is 7-1 in there last 8 meetings with BC.

Me too! Over the past 24 seasons (since the 50 game win streak)...the Rocks have managed to bring home 12 State Championships but only 2 Undefeated Seasons. Pretty sure all of us will take a repeat of last year but finishing undefeated is really special. 8 out of the 23 total Championships were undefeated seasons in the history of the program (correct me if I'm wrong). That says a lot about the schedule and talent around Louisville...especially X and Male. Hard to get through district undefeated in many years. Even the old district days with Central, JTown, Ballard and Waggoner in the 80's. This year will be like going back in time with the new district.

 

I wouldn't take a repeat of last year. Five losses on that schedule was acceptable. Five losses on this schedule would be a disgrace even if they did take another state title in the end.

This is a tough one for John Hardin. They play Central Hardin, Meade County, WC, South Warren, North Hardin, Christian County and their district games. I am hoping they can finish the regular season 7-3. I think they will make the state semifinals again and play either WC or SW to play for the title.

Trinitys JV might play more than their varsity if they were to meet SK in a state final. Trinity by many.

Better think again last years scrimmage came down to the final seconds in Varsity play. The game was 14 to 7 with SK in the redzone and the pass went incomplete in the endzone as time ran out. Only a scrimmage but SK did good against X.

Mayfield 13-2, two regular season losses. 6 Of their regular season foes are capable. At this point McCracken and PT would be likely at the top of this. Murray, now a district foe, is certainly capable though that has not happened since the late 90's and that was the only time it has happened since the early 1970's. In the playoffs a 3rd round or 4th round loss is a very real possibility but I am going to roll the marbles and hope the Cards make it back to the title game for the 7th year in a row.

For moment I thought you meant '7th title in a row' then I reread your statement. That's interesting though. I think Trinity and Highlands are tied for that record at 8 consecutive state games apiece, but Trinity's streak ended in 2013 and Highlands has the chance to go for 9 this year.

Henderson county goes 4-6 and wins one playoff game then out they go!! Will be back to back losing season. But we can always hope for 6-4!!

The 1994 Lampley Team finished 6-4 and if my memory doesn't fail me, that team lost 4 in a row during a certain stretch of the season (District Runner Up)...with a very similar schedule to what we will see this year. I'm pretty sure most of the Trinity faithful would agree it was just as special when the team went on to beat Boone County and Shaun Alexander in the State Championship...regardless of the games the team lost in the regular season. I'm not aware of anyone that ever called that season a disgrace. We have at least 4 teams on this schedule with the ability to beat the Rocks on any Friday night, maybe more. Just trying to keep it real.

 

Even with Ensworth, Brentwood, X and Male on this schedule - most important game in my opinion will come down to the last regular season game @ballard for district championship and #1 seed in playoffs. Remember Ballard was a 6A State semi-finalist last year with plenty of weapons coming back.

 

Love this schedule and think the team will do just fine overall. We will have plenty of time to talk it over during the season. And we all know Coach Beatty will have the troops focused for the 2nd part of the season no matter how we finish after the first 10.

The teams of yesteryear are not the teams of today. Besides, I would grudgingly accept four losses to those four teams. But how could they lose to all four of them and to one of the other six they have on the schedule? How would that not be a disgrace, given Trinity's tradition and the strength of the team this year?

 

I would be shocked if Ballard was much of a threat. Dixie Heights beat them 48-21, and Trinity rolled right over Dixie Heights.

I think Collins will go 6-4 or 7-3 and win a few games in the playoffs.
