No way. Sterile. Lack of parking. Long drive to Pendleton County.

I like Ashlands Stadium. Classic and always will be I hope. However, I think one of my favorite stadiums was Hazard and not for any of the reasons everyone is posting here. I remember going to the stadium and jumping over mud holes to get to your seat on the visitors side . Natural grass with a few rough spots,(or mud HAZARDS). Everyone was so nice. It was the way football was suppose to be or use to be. Muggy night, hospitality, and by the end of the game the fog had settled in. It was one of the neatest game atmospheres I had been to in awhile. I think, however, it was a temporary setting as they were building a new stadium. What a shame. Loved the football experience that night.

I must admit Belfry has a really nice set up. I really can't find any flaws with it. If you take away tradition I really don't care for Ashlands stadium. Makes you feel like you're in a crowded elevator playing there. I never liked Racelands till they finally fixed their corner carpeted end zones. Who needs a track anyway. Surely not the track team who have their only state title lol. Ok all kidding aside I do like Ashland front area and Racelands lit up "RAMS" press box logo is pretty kick butt. Lol

Sometimes it just takes intestinal fortitude. The school administration and Board wanted it done, but no one would give the order because they knew so many community members liked to walk the track for exercise. So, when it was done, I knew I wouldn't get any push back from them. And, I went to the School Board meeting to take the heat from the community, because I don't work for the school and all they could do to me was call me names. Ram took the heat, the school got what they wanted without causing any trouble and the board got to build a new walkway to make the community happy. The definition of a "win-win" situation.

A crowded elevator, lol? Isn't the whole idea to have a crowded stadium, as opposed to being able to sit anywhere and take up as much room as you want? Putnam is an awful big place to feel crowded. There are only a few games a year where its a full house.

Where are you trying to go? Two new concession areas this year on the home and visitor sides, along with restrooms I believe. So you should have less than a 50 yard walk anywhere you sit in the stadium if your hungry, thirsty, or nature calls. The bear says exersise isn't a bad thing. Exept during hibernation months of course.

Was going to say, I don't think Highlands and Hazard have played since 1970. I thought we might be looking at some real old-timers!

Thought that's what you meant. The Stadium was Cawood's old home field. The other time that I can recall Highlands playing there was in 1982 when the Birds had to travel the Snowy roads to Harlan to play Cawood in the Playoffs on their way to the States 1st 15-0 record and beating Franklin Simpsom 6-0 in the Rain Classic State Championship.

 

Agree that Cawood field was a Classic setting for sure! I remember Highlands in 2010 having to hurry to Walmart to purchase new 2-way Radios because theirs weren't working properly in the Deep Hiils of Harlan. As soon as the Birds returned to Ft Thomas they started working fine....Really weird!

The only time I've ever seen St. X play when it wasn't in the state finals was in 2004. The game was against Male at Manual Stadium. Was Manual Stadium always the home of St. X before they built their own place?
