Guess he neutralized the threat. Thank goodness he wasn't seriously injured by the handcuffed 100 pound woman. He could easily have broken a knuckle on her skull.

It's never a good idea to argue your arrest once it has been determined that you are going to jail. It's also never a good idea to resist said arrest.

Well, after she kicked the officer she was laying flat in the seat of the cruiser, he could have just threw her legs the rest of the way in and shut the door.

And her boyfriend/husband is going to get messed up when she gets out.

My initial reaction is he just got so frustrated with this lady continually talking and not being cooperative that he just snapped.

The "kick" doesn't look like a)it connected b)definitely didn't him him in his jaw nor c)warranted punching the girl.

Warning: Some "language" involved.

You cannot tell from the video if any of the bonded is true. That said it didn't look like it hit him in the jaw. I wonder if it actually hit him in the junk and he just reacted.

If they would have tased her it would have been easier to get her in the car.

Thats for Wireman.

And would that be an appropriate reaction given that she was cuffed and already in the car?

Nope. I didn't say it would be.

Of course the fact that she was cuffed didn't stop her from kicking him while wearing boots. People wearing cuffs have killed police officers, they have stabbed them, shot them, beat them, stole their car and even killed themselves. Cuffs are a great way to restrain someone but they are not in any measure fool proof.

I'm not saying he should or shouldn't have punched her...but if it was a 6 foot 225 lb man would we even be having this conversation?

It wasn't though was it? That's why there is a thread here. If it was a man of that size and strength the officers might have had something to fear. Just because officers have been injured or killed by handcuffed suspects is immaterial to the situation in the video. Unless that is how officers are trained to neutralize the threat provided an by a small, handcuffed woman lying on her back in the backseat of a police cruiser.

I didn't read the link but I will say one of the toughest people I ever fought in law enforcement was a woman. And I am completely certain that at least one cop that came after me got lit up by her.

Myself and a fellow deputy were roughed up pretty good trying to restrain a 15 y.o. female. Got kicked a couple of times South of the Border and she was in cuffs.

Did you punch her in the face to calm her down?

Don't worry, what we did is on video.

You really do enjoy bashing law enforcement. I sincerely hope you never need their assistance. I'm sure, by your standards, they will do nothing correctly.

What I saw in the video was completely unnecessary. He may well have been within his rights to punch her and will likely face no penalties. That seems to be par for the course. He lost his temper and punched a handcuffed woman that was already in the cruiser so hard he broke her eye orbit. I think any reasonable person can see that was not necessary. But hey, gotta neutralize these threats, right?

If you want to defend it have at it. It was a sickening act that did nothing to ensure the officer's safety--just satisfy his temper.
