I thought this happened when I was watching the game Sunday but figured it was just a mess up on the TV monitor. When the umps didn't do anything after he ran to first I never second guessed it. Seems Joey did in fact walk on only 3 balls though. Interesting that none of the umps caught it, the TV broadcaster never mentioned it and the Nats bench let it slide.

We used to do it all the time in little league, especially when the kid umping was someone we knew.

 

Some may call it cheating, I prefer to think it was shortening the game. No more waiting around to be hit or for the fourth ball to be thrown.
