I think this will be a pretty close game for most of the night...

Ryle is playing much better as of late.

Last year didnt Raisor start as a soph in the finals.....so just another soph starting if they go with Doty.

 

If It were me I would probably let Jones start and see how long he can go and then bring in Raisor as my 2nd option. Bunning/Doty would be there for late innings if needed.

 

The key is the Birds have to get the bats going....they have been quiet in their past 2 Finals appearances.

Haven't been scoring enough lately to indicate winning big.

Highlands has averaged 8.6 runs per game and gives up 3.3 runs per game, a difference of 5+ runs per game. But those numbers are somewhat inflated by 2 games where they lost 17-16 in a crazy game in Myrtle and the 15-5 loss to CCH. Take away those 2 games and the margin widens to 6+ runs per game.

 

Ryle averages 6.4 runs per game and gives up 5.2 runs per game, a difference of slightly more than 1 run per game.

 

Stats aren't of course the predictor of tonight's final but they do tell the picture of two squads.

 

Thinking Ryle will need to score 7 or 8 runs to pull the upset. Not likely with the quality arms the Birds have.

 

My prediction is the Birds winning 7-2 and bringing home the 9th Region trophy for the first time since JB was the SS.

Ryle in a close one -

Great quote from Luke Hennigan in today's Enquirer: "It means everything to us. Three of us started that regional final (in 2012) our freshman year, and this will be our third. We're definitely hungry for our first championship. We've seen (Highlands baseball) go from 6-30 to 30-6, so we're just ready to bring it home."

I caught a lot of flak on these very airwaves a few short years ago when I said this program was a few years away from arriving on the scene of NKY baseball. The seniors were involved with many teams growing up that were very solid and the juniors were on teams that were pretty solid in their own right. Combining the two along with some other younger kids mixed in and you have the type of program you have now. This is not just a one year run folks, this program has arrived and will be successful for more years to come.
