An undefeated regular season is possible, but 9-1 or 8-2 is more likely.

I can see a possible loss to Ironton and loss to Ashland if they figure out how to get Baker to the secondary. Not saying they will lose but those can be tough games. Raceland game is a toss up to either team. It will be a chess match between coaches if you ask me. They could probably play 50 times and split 25 games apiece if you ask me. This group of seniors have only lost once to Raceland from grade school to 9th and all were close. Should win the rest of our games with an emphasis on "should". Lol

As tight as they are I doubt the linemen will be wearing them around other than the football field. Not very flattering to the big men on the line I can imagine.

They look good. That's the same style fit as Raceland wears, are meant to be very tight fitting .... they help in keeping opposing teams from "grabbing, pulling a player down by the jersey and / or holding. I am sure that your big guys will like that .

Oh yes. Bourbon Co. I believe have the same style as well. Much better than the finger twisting jerseys I grew up with grabbing. Lol

I think Russell will be fun to watch with Conley back. Saw him in person several times last year and he has all the tools to be special. The fact that Russell's district now trades with Belfry's will make it hard come playoffs but will hopefully bring back some of the great games from the past.

In my opinion you don't concern yourself with preparing for Belfry.. you just focus internally and maximize your team's execution and defense.

 

You don't really have to scout Belfry or do anything cute. You already know exactly what Belfry is going to do offensively... and you know they are going to be a beast defensively and that their D-line, specifically Horton, is going to be a force.

 

The line has to play cohesive football. You can't make self-inflicted mistakes like penalties, turnovers, or missed assignments. If you have a man open the ball needs to be on him and he has to make the catch despite getting hit hard. Pick one or two spots to try and steal a home run, otherwise shorten the game and try to move the sticks.

 

On Defense the same principles. Don't give Belfry first downs with penalties, don't miss an assignment, and if you take a risk it needs to be at the right time.

 

Pikeville proved last year that Belfry is not immortal and that if you play your best game and execute you can win.

Russell has been and always will be a program. Reguardless of the head coach or administration they will win games. Coach McGlone set that standard and is Russell football. I think it will be awhile before they can beat belfry or for that matter win a state championship. Let's face it the Ashland area isn't flourishing and population is declining. Good luck to the Devils and all other teams in 2015.

Russell's stock is on the rise. Look for them to be very competitive again this year.

Yes it is. Can't beat the atmosphere for Raceland/Ashland.

 

But Russell/Greenup wouldn't be bad either.

Russell will have a pretty good year this year in my opinion. Offensively Conley is another year older and stronger. McKee is more confident in the system. Brewer will be a big offensive target while Ison and Cole will fill in at RB for Korzep. Defensively Arnold and Korzep will be hard to replace. I believe they are getting a healthy Sammy Smith back. He will be a huge contributor on the line.
