May 14, 201511 yr 'Simpsons' Mr. Burns walking away from $14 million deal - May. 14, 2015 Dude was offered $14Million for two years to do the voices of Burns, Ned and Skinner...same deal everyone else was offered but says he needed freedom to do his own thing.
May 14, 201511 yr If he doesn't change his stance, he will be surprised at how easily the show will move on without him. But he may have enough money that he doesn't care.

No. He's a huge loss. This isn't someone who did one or two voices. Flanders alone is a cornerstone of the show, and the likes of Mr. Burns, Smithers, Skinner, Lenny, Reverend Lovejoy, and Kent Brockman are incredibly hard to lose as well. They better hope they can find someone close enough to do those voices justice because they can't just simply lose those aspects. I saw in the comments and agree - this may finally be the beginning of the end.
May 14, 201511 yr I saw in the comments and agree - this may finally be the beginning of the end. Should have ended years ago. The first eight seasons, especially seasons 2-6, are comedy gold. Seasons 9-11 or 12 were okay, but that's about it. And I've said many times, the show was never the same after Phil Hartman died. I can't see it being any good without Harry Shearer.
May 14, 201511 yr This show stopped being funny over a decade ago. I'm shocked it's lasted this long.

A talent that you could plug in several places and he shone in every role.
May 14, 201511 yr I hope the show can survive without him. Greed should never be rewarded. Whatever this is, I don't think it's greed. In the article Shearer mentions a play on the London stage. Whatever that paid, it sure as heck wasn't $14 million. I think he just decided he was rich enough to not do something he didn't feel like doing anymore.
May 15, 201511 yr If he doesn't change his stance, he will be surprised at how easily the show will move on without him. But he may have enough money that he doesn't care. The guy's been doing the show since I was in high school. It's not like he's rushed himself into the decision.

If it wasn't a cartoon and a main character leaves a show then sometimes it can be a huge loss, but a cartoon ... not so much.

If it wasn't a cartoon and a main character leaves a show then sometimes it can be a huge loss, but a cartoon ... not so much. Has more to do with just the voice. Comedic timing comes into play, and Shearer is a master of that. And ask yourself, truly, aren't the Bugs Bunny cartoons nowadays just not quite up to snuff with Mel Blanc being dead?

May 19, 201511 yr I'd use my favorite Dakari Johnson quote here but I don't want to violate any of the rules here...
