May 10, 201511 yr Boston is going to throw the checkbook at Cueto, I don't think the Reds can come close enough to get a friendly deal
May 10, 201511 yr Would Cueto leave the Reds on a midseason rental and give them a chance to resign him next year at a team-friendly long-term deal? Like, lots of deferred payments? Only if he's allergic to massive sums of money.
May 11, 201511 yr Boston is going to throw the checkbook at Cueto, I don't think the Reds can come close enough to get a friendly deal Hopefully it's Boston & not the Cubbies.
May 11, 201511 yr I don't think the Cubs would like to have 2 pitchers making that much. But I don't know, with all the young cheap talent they have, they probably could afford it
May 11, 201511 yr Leakes performance should have no impact on Cueto. Cueto is the big dog and is head and shoulders the better pitcher. Leake is an innings eater with slightly more upside than Bronson had. If you want to sell seats, keep Cueto and Chapman. Want to win? trade them and improve your depth.
May 12, 201511 yr Reds would like to sign both but can't.........With Leake pitching so well and Bailey gone but still getting PAID do the Reds have any choice but to sign Leake long term and trade Cueto? They really can't afford Cueto long term while letting Leake leave. They can't let both leave. So is the only solution now to sign Leake and trade Cueto? One has nothing to do with the other. Poor axiom for an argument. The Reds almost have to trade Cueto by the deadline. No way they can afford him. This was the case regardless of Leake's performance. I doubt they can afford Leake at this point either though, so they will likely lose both. Leake should have been signed to a long term deal last year or in 13. They could have gotten him for half of what he'll get now. Leake isn't going to win folks many free pizzas, but he's a pro pitcher who stays healthy, works every fifth day, has a solid ERA, eats innings and keeps you in the game. And, he's still young. Underrated here for too long, someone else will be happy to pay him
May 12, 201511 yr Cueto does not want to be a Red, so hes gone. Leake will go where he can get the money as this is his one shot for a big contract, hes gone. Reds went from arguable the best staff in the game, to 5 guys you never heard of in 2 years. wow.

DeSclafani Lorenzen Iglesias Stephenson Moscot Garrett Bailey Crawford Howard Lots of very good arms there.
May 12, 201511 yr Author It's not going to be a bad staff. DeSclafani Lorenzen Iglesias Stephenson Moscot Garrett Bailey Crawford Howard Lots of very good arms there. Trouble is by the time they become a solid staff Votto might be the only position player left.
May 13, 201511 yr Trouble is by the time they become a solid staff Votto might be the only position player left. I think that's a positive.
May 13, 201511 yr Author I think that's a positive. Maybe. But the rest of the line-up would have to come via the trades. Reds minor league system not exactly stocked with position players
May 17, 201511 yr Leake just never seems to pitch a bad game, even going back into last year Guess we can put this to rest can't we?
