I have ALWAYS said that she is one of the best in the business.

 

Doris Burke is good. I thought Kara Lawson did a great job this season. I could see ESPN moving her up the ranks.

I am not speaking for @newarkcatholicfan, but I think he may be talking about the female reporters along the sidelines that may not know the game but are strictly there for sex appeal?

 

And if that's the case, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed Kaylee Hartung this basketball season. She was a nice addition to the ESPN SEC network.

I have no problem with female announcers, but I prefer men, specifically former players because I think they know what they're talking about more than anyone else.

 

I think we get bogged down in the former players angle too much. Sometimes even if they know something, they just don't have any business being on television. Howard Cosell always thought so and to a certain extent, when I'm listening to some of these B-teamers calling the noon games on ESPN, it's hard to disagree with him.

At this point there are FAR less female reporters that are annoying than there are men that are annoying.

 

Amazing how many guys that don't know much about sports either. I was reading updates on college baseball earlier this year and the male writer kept referring to "Runs" as "Points"...that drove me nuts. Finally I guess someone sat down and explained baseball to him because he is now calling the Runs.

 

I'd think that in this "age of enlightenment" that whether the reporter was male of female wouldn't matter, just the job they did would.

Not much you can ask there IMO, that's more on the network for sending the reporter there then on the reporter.

Exactly. I don't blame the sideline reporter, I blame the network for having a sideline reporter.

I don't watch a lot of SEC Network, but I've found Maria Taylor to be pretty good at what she does.

Are you referring to the sideline reporters? I don't really take that stuff seriously no matter who is doing it. Same if it's a guy. I just don't care about it.

 

As far as actual announcers or play by play...if I never have to hear Doris Burke call a game again, I'll go happy..

 

I'm a woman. I'm all about women in sports. But for whatever reason, I do prefer a guy calling the games.
