April 10, 201511 yr Like I said, Highlands doesn't hold the patent on bullying. It's a problem everywhere but people in glass houses still want to throw stones. Young man, 17 years old, ended his life on Saturday due to the constant bullying he faced at Simon Kenton. The funeral was last night. Oh and there is apparently a Twitter war going on where kids are talking about bringing guns to school and shooting up the place. Wonder what the attendance rate is today at SK as students are afraid to go now. Where is the outrage from the SK faithful? Until people get out from behind their anonymous keyboards and actually speak out, this sort of thing will continue to happen. When I say speak out, I mean call the superintendent, the principal, the school board, the AD, the coach; hell, call Julian at the KHSAA and let them know that bullying is unacceptable, the punishment handed down at HHS is unacceptable and the actions at SK this week are unacceptable. It takes a village, people.
April 10, 201511 yr Prayers to his family and friends, I hope they can find peace. This is a problem everywhere, made all that much worse by social media.
April 10, 201511 yr Author Prayers to the kid. That's all you have to say? What are you doing to seek justice for this victim? Where is your outrage at this? What are you doing about the culture at SK? Just as I thought.
April 10, 201511 yr So instead of praying for the kid, his friends and family we are going to bash SK. Solid thread...
April 10, 201511 yr Author Just calling a spade a spade. Why should all the focus be on one school? What are you doing to fight the culture of bullying at both these schools?
April 10, 201511 yr Just calling a spade a spade. Why should all the focus be on one school? What are you doing to fight the culture of bullying at both these schools? I do my part by letting my siblings who are currently in high school know that bullying is never ok. I remember a story my brother told me about how he messed with this kid and I immediately put him in his place. I told him he was very lucky that him and I were not in school at the same time or else he would be looking up at me from the floor. I also warn them of social media and how that affects kids at home.
April 10, 201511 yr Just calling a spade a spade. Why should all the focus be on one school? What are you doing to fight the culture of bullying at both these schools? I think that this is too sensitive of a topic to use in order to make a point to UK Fan. This is awful. I pray for the kid's family. I will never undertstand suicide. I hope that they can find peace.

April 10, 201511 yr Classless... The kid who took his life could have family on here.. That post should be deleted.
April 10, 201511 yr Did you really just use a kid's death to prove to everyone that bullying happens everywhere? Really sad.
April 10, 201511 yr An absolute tragedy and this is the thread that should hit 33000 views in 3 days. It won't for a lot of reasons. It doesn't matter the schools involved, this problem is in all schools everywhere. Social media makes the reach of bullying virtually unlimited. The victims can't escape even at home. I am so glad that I didn't have to deal with it when I was young and that my children got through high school with only having to deal with in on a minor scale.
April 10, 201511 yr Very sad, on multiple levels. First, that a young person felt like their only way out was suicide. Prayers for all involved. Secondly, that the death is being used as a "gotcha."
