Western Ky & Eastern Ky top 5 last 5 years

Featured Replies

Next five would be:

1. Henderson County

2. Christian County

3. Paducah Tighlman

4. Warren Central

5. Trigg Co.

I believe you've quite overrated Christian County. In the past 5 years they have zero region titles, two regional final appearances, and only one district championship. To not even try to make a case for Trigg or Paducah (which I would rate both above Christian), I can easily put Central over Christian County based upon two region titles, three straight regional final appearances, three district championships, and head to head wins in 4 out of the 5 matchups between the two teams in the time period. So in other words, no way is Christian above Central.

Pretty solid top 5 though.

I would say the top 5 programs in Western Ky right now are:

1. Owensboro Catholic

2. Mayfield

3. Hopkinsville

4. Bowling Green

5. Ft. Campbell (the only team not in the top 10 in wins, but real close)

Next five would be:

1. Henderson County

2. Christian County

3. Paducah Tighlman

4. Warren Central

5. Trigg Co.

Ft Campbell isn't in the top 10 in wins and hasn't even won a regional championship but you have them ahead of Warren Central that is 7th in wins with 46 and won 2 regional championships the past 5 years? I don't think many are giving Warren Central the respect they deserve.

West Ky Top 5

1 Owensboro Catholic

2 Mayfield

3 Hopkinsville

4 Bowling Green

5 Warren Central

Next 5

1 Henderson

2 Christian

3 Glasgow - Has more wins and regions won than Ft Campbell!

4 Ft Campbell

5 Trigg

West Ky Top 5

I do think Henderson belongs above Central. The other day I had done some research fully intending to explain why Central deserved to be above, and what I came up with was each has two regional championships, each has one regional final loss, each has a second round loss, each has a first round loss. They're 1-1 in head to head games. So in the end to me, it comes down to wins, which Henderson has the advantage in.

I would have disagreed about Central not getting respect since previously they just weren't mentioned in the top 5 which I agree with, but to have them 9th is just not correct.

East

Belfry

Bell

Beechwood

Russell

Rockcastle

I'll assume your not from the MTNS since your list includes Beechwood...

Or maybe they are assuming that Beechwood just has to be in the mountains based on name alone.;):D

Belfry: 56-14 (2 Titles) Region Champs 3/5 years

Rockcastle County: 55-13 (2 Runner-Ups) Region Champs 3/5 years

Bell County: 49-14 Region Champs 1/5 years

Russell: 55-13 (1 Title) Region Champs 3/5 years

Breathitt County: 45-15 (1 Title) Region Champs 1/5 years

I just listed them as others have.

Don't know much about Eastern Ky. Guess I could research and look. But here is the winningest schools in Western Ky since the turn of the century and only two have won state championships.

1. Mayfield (65 wins) State Champs 2002

2. Hopkinsville (62 wins)

3. Bowling Green (60 wins)

4. Glasgow (58 wins)

5. Owensboro Catholic (57 wins)

5. Bardstown (57 wins) State Champs 2001

7. Trigg Co. (56 wins)

8. Warren Central (56 wins)

9. Henderson County (52 wins)

9. Paducah Tighlman (52 wins)

If you just go by the last 5 years then it looks like this:

1. Owensboro Catholic (54 wins)

2. Henderson County (52 wins)

2. Hopkinsville (52 wins)

2. Mayfield (52 wins)

5. Bowling Green (50 wins)

6. Bardstown (47 wins)

7. Warren Central (46 wins)

7. Trigg Co. (46 wins)

9. Glasgow (45 wins)

10. Paducah Tighlman (43 wins)

Only 2 state champs out of these 10 schools in this century. I would say the top 5 programs in Western Ky right now are:

1. Owensboro Catholic

2. Mayfield

3. Hopkinsville

4. Bowling Green

5. Ft. Campbell (the only team not in the top 10 in wins, but real close)

Since Corbin has to play out of the Western end in the playoffs, they should be on these lists with 59 wins this decade and 48 in the last five years. They have also won 3 region titles and 1 state semifinal during this period.

W. Ky:

1) Mayfield

2) Hopkinsville

3) ___________

4) ___________

5) ___________

Since Corbin has to play out of the Western end in the playoffs, they should be on these lists with 59 wins this decade and 48 in the last five years. They have also won 3 region titles and 1 state semifinal during this period.
These rankings are more or less Region 1 teams in their respective classes. Corbin doesn't interact with any of these teams, so it's very difficult to rank them with them.
I'll assume your not from the MTNS since your list includes Beechwood...

This thread never limits it to "the MTNS". It is simply east vs west.

East

1 Highlands

2 Beechwood

3 Belfry

4 Danville

5 Russell

West

1 Trinity

2 St X

3 Boyle Co

4 Mayfield

5 Hopkinsville

If you are saying its Regions 1 & 2 vs Regions 3 & 4 then I would replace Danville with NCC in the east, and slide Hopkinsville out of the west making Danville the #4 team over there. Actually, that would make Trinity the obvious #1 in the east and then everyone in the east would slide down a spot.

So here is how I would have this scenario:

East

1. Trinity

2. Highlands

3. Belfry

4. Beechwood (changed because Belfry has 2 titles to Beechwood's 1)

5. NCC (Narrowly over Russell)

West

1. St. Xavier

2. Boyle Co.

3. Danville

4. Mayfield

5. Hopkinsville

Belfry #3 and Danville #4? That's interesting.

The thread title says "Western Ky" and "Eastern Ky" ...

I don't think anyone considers Highlands, Beechwood and Danville to be in "Eastern Ky." Nor do Trinity, St. Xavier and Boyle County fit in "Western Ky."

By the way, how does Danville get in the east and Boyle in the west? They're in the same town, after all ...
