Coach K legitimized Calipari's blueprint

Featured Replies

Folks there are been big time freshman play and win titles long before Cal.

difference the NBA was reluctant to invest in young guys. Now that they have the D-league they don't mind drafting guys not ready.

The fab 5 was way before Cal.

Yep, but the Fab 5 never won a title in conference or NCAA.

Carmelo Anthony at Syracuse comes to mind.

Yep, but the Fab 5 never won a title in conference or NCAA.

And yet they were still just as successful using "Cal's blueprint" as Cal was before Cal made his blueprint.

I know you all are throwing out different times freshmen were crucial to championships and you're right. But were their coaches blasted like Cal has been by the national media for ruining the game of college basketball? Were those coaches blasted for making a mockery of amateurism? Just one example:

"You've made your bed, now lay in it", written a few weeks too early in 2014 by Pat Forde. There are plenty more out there like it.

I don't believe Cal had the blueprint, but I do think he saw where things were heading and he jump started the movement and took a lot for heat. I also believe that Coach K has been trying to do the same thing, just more quietly, and is now seeing great success with it. Very smart of him to realize and make a change to take advantage of it. Before 2009, he was pretty against the idea because he kinda got burned by it.

You UK fans really need to quit letting Pat Forde and other Cal/UK haters bother you so much with their UK hatred. Especially when Cal has come out and said he is against one and dones but he is going to play the hand he is given. Cal was just elected to the Hall of Fame. Why should anyone care what his haters say? His record is speaking for itself. Hall of Fame. End of story.

As for Coach K. Is he not allowed to change his mind? Is he not allowed to adapt? This is another example of why I always take up for coaches. Had Coach K stayed stubborn and not adapted and Duke sucked people would say the game has passed him by and he needs to retire. Instead he adapted, went after John Wall hard, starting chasing guys he wouldn't chase in the past and just won a title. That's what great coaches do. They change with the game. Let that man be great!!!!

Gotta love how people overreact to Coach K simply being a way better coach than Cal will ever be. Maybe Cal should call K for the blueprint to winning championships.
Pot-stirrer.
Pot-stirrer.

Sometimes. I'm only human. :D

This initial post of the thread is the pot stirring. Two can play that game. I can be rational or irrational. I usually just go with the flow. :D

Dude. Did you totally miss the part where I said he was very smart to realize he needed to make a change to take advantage of it? Or the part where I said he's been trying to do it and now he's seen great success from it? haha!

I was letting him be great by saying it was smart of him to realize he needed to adapt and did so quicker than many of his colleagues. Now he's reaping the rewards of it.

Cause it gives us something to discuss on a boring/rainy Wednesday while we wait for the mass exodus announcements!

Touche.

And then the next week comes the new regime commits once space is cleared. :lol2:

Coach Cal has always gotten ridiculed and labeled a cheat and someone who is ruining the college game because of his recruiting of the best players who end up being one and dones.

We we all know the Hypocriscy that exist in the media and fandom of the game which is why you will now see people

coming out of the woodwork praising the way Coach K has "adapted" to the one and donE's and now he will

be praised by the very same people who bashed Cal for basically creating what college basketball has become

and wrote the blueprint on how to win.

You are 100 % correct. Absolute double standard that Mike K. / Duke are the NCAA's poster child for college basketball. NO ONE that I have heard has Ever discredited K's record, accomplishments and championships, Duke is a great program, K is a Great Coach ... NO One. Cal was recruiting, getting and winning with one and dones, a couple more followed. When Duke, Coach K started all of a sudden it was "what a great thing he does, blending all together" ...it's so obvious it's laughable.

What has gotten far past the point of "throwing up" in our mouths is how the Duke program is catered to in every way possible. Duke doesn't get every call but I defy anyone to say that they don't get the benefit of the doubt, get the larger pct. of close, critical calls that could go either way.

People will blast me, that's no problem with me or any skin off my behind. Hell, between liking Buckeye football and speaking my mind on various topics I am quite used to it. I actually enjoy it at times.

I know that I am not alone on bgp on these feelngs, just are few that will say that Coach K. / Duke seems to...no, they get just about any break possible - Even at times that they don't deserve it. The bad thing is that tgey are good enough without them but that doesn't change the fact that they get the benefit in not all but most close situations.

Again .... I know that Duke is a Great Team, Program and Coach K is a Great, Legendary Coach that just may go down as the best coach in college basketball history. I, personally haven't said or heard anyone else say anything different.
