April 2, 201511 yr I'm dumbfounded....So they cut LeCure, but kept Gregg? Hoover? Hoover was bad but it was the homers that really did him in. LeCure was really bad last year as well--especially against RHs.

April 2, 201511 yr I think the reds bench will be a great improvement over years past. Seems like Boesch refound himself last year and giving the reds a legit 4th outfielder with the ability to play some first base. I think he will get quite a bit of at bats this year giving Byrd some rest against right handers and keeping Votto fresh. Dominguez is a home run threat off the bench and has some versatility in the field and Negron could end up being one of the best utility players in the mlb this season. Negron will get a ton of at bats and will be in the lineup more often than not spotting someone, I think he racks up a ton of starts at SS and may even be the starter by years end. We seen what Pena can do last year and Skip will have a bounce back year. The Reds will start a former all star at 6 of 8 positions, Hamilton and Cozart being the only players to have not made an all star appearance. If everyone can stay healthy the reds offense will be near the top in the national league. The reds pitching is a question mark, but if the main 3 stay healthy I'm not too worried. I think Desclafani is going to be a very good number 4 and the reds have lots of options for the 5 spot as the season goes along. Marquis will stay there as long as he can duplicate his performance this spring. The Bullpen looks pretty solid with Chapman, Jumbo and Badenhop. Cingrani has looked to be a beast out of the pen during the spring games and can eat some innings. Parra has been up and down in the past but you could do a lot worse than having him as a lefty out of the pen. Hoover can go no where but up after last season and I think he will. Gregg brings great experience to the staff and I think he will be solid, he will find some magic behind those glasses. Lorenzon and Iglesias will be nice options to bring up from aaa as the year goes along if need be, unless Iglesias holds onto his rotation spot which would send Marquis packing. I doubt that happens. I think the reds will surprise people this year and grab a wildcard spot in the playoffs. The offense is going to explode this summer with a healthy Votto leading the way.

I guess hope springs eternal before the season starts...I'm just failing to see your optimism over the bench. Boesch has spent the majority of the last 2 seasons in the minors. He was sent down last season after being horrible at the beginning of the season and had some moderate success after being recalled against some September pitching--that's not a good time to gauge a hitter. He still finished with a .185 average. Negron is a career minor leaguer that hit .269 at AAA and struck out in a full 1/4 of his bats. He's got a career average of .227 in AAA and he's 29. If he gets a ton of at bats the Reds are in trouble. Schumaker has been in decline for 6 seasons. He's 35, he's not going to bounce back. Dominguez is another career minor leaguer that has a career .312 OBP in AAA and has struck out in 1/4 of his at bats. Pena is a decent backup catcher--that is better when used sparingly. If this is an improved bench it must have been even worse than I thought the last few years. I see a bunch of AAAA players and that's about it. The rotation is significantly worse than last season. Cingrani should help the bullpen and might help make it average rather than the liability that it was last season. The offense looks to be better than average but it is painfully thin. If Bruce and Votto don't perform at their previous All-Star levels this team is ticketed for the basement. Even if they do rebound I can't see this team being better than 3rd in the division. But hey, it's April. Everyone has a chance now, right?
