March 19, 201511 yr It's unbelievable what people will get upset over. You think Dayton wanted to be playing that game? The First Four is in Dayton every season. The committee said Dayton was the very last at-large team to get in (which is an absolute joke btw), and had UConn won in the American title game, Dayton would've been the 1st team out. So an hour before the selection show the committee had 3 choices: A) Put Dayton in the 1st 4 2) Screw Dayton over completely and put a team that they'd deemed less deserving in ahead of them D) screw a more deserving team over, put Dayton squarely in the field, and send someone else to the 1st 4. They made the right choice.
March 19, 201511 yr ^^^ Not a foul. Home team call? Maybe. Foul? No. Yes, it was a foul that would have been called earlier in the game.
March 19, 201511 yr Yes, it was a foul that would have been called earlier in the game. They called everything earlier in the game. Really hurt UD with the short rotation when they started off calling the game that tight. Starting SG on the bench less than two minutes in. Starting SF and leading scorer on the bench near the middle of the first half.
March 19, 201511 yr I still think the final play was a foul on the 3-point shot. That being said, I can't believe Boise State couldn't get a shot off at the rim in 20 seconds, including a timeout to setup a play.

It probably was a foul, but not something that ever gets called in an end game situation.
March 19, 201511 yr It probably was a foul, but not something that ever gets called in an end game situation. Andy Kennedy begs to differ.
March 19, 201511 yr My only counter-argument to it all is that we have been told that teams can be moved up or down one line to avoid conference match-ups, regional reasons, etc. It is why in 2011 UK was a 4 seed and Florida was a 2, despite UK coming on strong at the end of the season and rolling through the SEC tournament. Florida was a 3 that was beat down in the SEC final, but was shifted up to a 2 seed. That same rule could apply for Dayton. They would simply have to switch seeds with a 10. Other option is to not make it a requirement they have to be an at-large team to participate in the First Four.
March 19, 201511 yr I am fine with the setup, btw, but do not try to argue it is not an advantage playing at home. There is a reason teams have glaring differences between home/away records.

No one is so arguing. They said last year when UD was an 11-seed that they were one spot away from being in a play-in game and that they were going to let it be on UD's home court if it ever happened. There's a lot of anger over something that no one saw fit to change after it almost happened in 2014. The advantage was definitely diminished (no student section, different goals and rims, different floor, different locker room) but definitely still there. Dayton shot really well in the second half after a rough start and maybe the familiar shooting backdrop finally came into play there.
March 19, 201511 yr It probably was a foul, but not something that ever gets called in an end game situation. Not entirely true. Check the UK-Wisconsin game in the Final Four last year. :thumb:
March 19, 201511 yr If you're going to have play-in games and you need a place that will always support it then UD is your spot. Not many other places would. So then that leaves you with what to do with UD if they're a candidate. If they're truly one of the last 4 then that's just bad luck for who they draw. Put me in the camp that says I could think of other teams that should have been in the play-in game before UD.
March 19, 201511 yr Author Why does asking a simple question qualify as being "upset over" or " a lot of anger" ? I thought it was a very fair question.
March 19, 201511 yr Why does asking a simple question qualify as being "upset over" or " a lot of anger" ? I thought it was a very fair question. It ain't you; but you asked the same question that about a million people have asked in the last 96 hours. Nobody argues it isn't an advantage but the NCAA decided they didn't care and weren't going to maneuver the brackets to stop it from happening. I believe that's in order to sell tickets but whatever. The guys on TV lost their minds over it last night. Couldn't believe Gottlieb whinging about it with 20 seconds left in a one-point game. Now I'm stuck with Dayton being in the middle of a national debate that no one wanted except (apparently) the NCAA and all the media outlets. Watched the postgame last night; about 30 seconds of talking about the game and 10 minutes of arguing whether it's fair.
