Lawnboy13 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 It wasn't until the middle of September that the City of Newport finally granted permission to the Newcath softball team to construct a building at Vets #2 , NewCath's home field. Head Coach, Denny Barnes spent more than a year and a half lobbying for this, and his hard work finally paid off. Ground was broken (as well as my ring finger:facepalm:) on Sept. 23rd, and the footer was poured on Sept 30th. On Dec. 14th the Local 18 Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers of Cincinnati donated their time and 1/2 the materials to construct the 1st level (which was completed in 1 day:eek:). From there it was the building crew of Barnes, Burkart, & Martin:lol2: constructing levels two & three...with the help at times from a few parents. Most of this work was done on EVERY weekend, as well as, New Years Eve and New Years Day. We were very fortunate that the weather was cooperative as the roof and siding was finished a week before the 1st snow storm. The past two weekends we have installed all the insulation and will be finishing the drywall by Tuesday March 17th. Also, you will be able to see completely through from Bartlett Field to Vets #2 , since we cleared the woods out. We are hoping the City of Newport will build a pavilion/picnic area there. Level One will consist of a concession stand, bathroom, and equipment storage area. Level Two will be the "Players Lounge" and private bathroom. Level Three will be the Press Box and Coaches Office. The project could/would NOT be realized without the help off MANY generous supporters, most being either NewCath Alum or parents who own businesses or work for businesses who donated to this project. We have had several businesses buy signs that will be placed on the outfield fence, and Coach Barnes has even donated back his salary for last year and this year to this project. When it's fully completed we will have less than $8000 in this building. Donations to this project include, all shingles, siding, gutters, 3 metal outside doors, windows, inside steps, all electrical service, lighting, speakers, all bathroom items, garage door, metal roll-up concession door, 6'x10' vinyl signs and I'm sure I'm forgetting some. When the building is completed I will post a list of every donor. We still have some work to do, so when you come to play NewCath in the upcoming weeks, please excuse any mess.

LCDAWGS19 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Looks great, Lawnboy. If an off night for us coincides with a home game, I'll come check it out.
nkuclubbaseball19 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 LB13 that looks awesome! I'll have to swing by and get a tour sometime.
LJM4th Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Very nice job and best of all no tax money was spent. That's getting it done the hard way. Everyone should be proud.
hidinout Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Nice work , I personally did stuff exactly like that for our HS team , brought in a Bobcat , cleared a hillside, chain sawed for days , set up scaffold for a painter I contacted to draw the school symbol on the press box , painted the press box , painted the dugouts , did field maintenance for 4 years , brought in a platform for seating in the LF area , thats prob about 1/2 of it .. then was as an assistant coach without an explanation the year after my kid graduated . Hope your efforts are better appreciated than mine were ( sorry for the thread hijack , your work just looks so similar to what I did )
BirdBrain Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Very nice work, I'm impressed. I didn't see anyplace in the three levels for umpires. Hmmm...:idunno:
KentuckyJoe Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Its how amazing the fields look up there compared to when I was a kid. Hilltop now Bartlett field is unrecognizable.
