I think the turning point in the game was when Sloas for Elliott County came in and took over guarding Redparth. In the early going Redparth was doing whatever he wanted. After Sloas started guarding him Morgan's offense went sluggish in a hurry.

I think what Doc was referring to in his post was that Elliott now has won 4 regional titles since Ashland won it's last one. Greenup nor Boyd has won a regional title since Ashland's last one. Finally the third quote West, Lewis, Raceland, Menifee, and Bath have never won a regional title in the 16th region.

 

Ashland won the Region in both 2001 and 2002. Since then there has been 13 region tournaments played the only winners are: Rose Hill, Morgan, Rowan (3 times), Russell, Elliott (4times), East Carter, and Fleming (2 times).

Great game plan defensively for Elliott. Took away the drive from Perry and got back in transition. Sloas is so overlooked. Redparth did not have a field goal when Sloas was on him. The Porter kid rebounded like a beast and was the reason Elliott outrebounded both Rowan and Morgan. The Lions had clearly the toughest draw and survived. A solid team with no stars and great coaching!

I still say Redparth is the best player on Morgan, Perry gets the credit with his 26 avg, Redparth does it all, Slosa did a nice job.

With a coach , I think Greenup could have won it this year or last. Elliott is doing something right.
