Congrats to my Elliott County Lions

What happened to Jordan Perry not letting Morgan lose? 12pts really ! Guess you cant call him big game Jordan, seems like when Morgan has a big game he doesn't do much. A little harder to do it VS the big boys. ( Rowan 12 I think )in regular season. Redparth had a nice game 14 and 7 not to bad. Jordan by his self next year might not be real good for Morgan. I think Elliott`s ,, team first ball goes a little better and Jordan Parry avg 26 a game play. And team D works better too, and rebounding, Not cherry picking... Congrats Redparth and rest of Morgan Co team who nobody ever here`s about on a really good season. ,

 

Beating a dead horse here because the game is over, but if anything Perry was too unselfish. I would like to see the stats on % turnovers/possessions that the other kids on the team had (excluding Redparth...and Adams for the most part. He doesn't seem to turn the ball over much--side bar--could the coaching staff have at least try to get that kid some more 3 points shots????? He's a good shooter). Perry and Redparth should have been the only 2 that a play is ever run for...occasionally a 3 pointer for Adams. Let the other kids crash the boards for offensive rebounds. I watched the whole game and only saw 2 plays specifically set up for Perry...1-a top of the key ball screen that ended up in a nice 3 pointer that just rimmed out...and another out of bounds play that got an open 3 that he passed up and drove in for a decent layup and just missed. Everything else he had to create on his own...it's the worst offensive scheme i've ever seen. And is there ever a play ran for Redparth? The kid makes a living on getting a rebound and making something happen on his own...help please??? He's athletic, and a slasher...get some ball movement so the defense is a half second late on rotation and swing it to him on the wing so he can slash to the basket and make something happen. And for the love of god, why did that little point guard handle the ball so much when you already have 2 ballhandlers in Perry and Redparth? Get a bigger body in there that can run, set screens, and rebound. In summary, these are all coaching miscalculations. If you want to put the blame of the loss somewhere, put it on the coaching staff. These are small adjustments that would have won the game. You can't blame an entire loss on one player.

I agree with you on a lot of this. The little point guard though got in foul trouble and it really hurt Morgan last night. Yes he did make a few costly turnovers but he's only a freshman and definitely is a starter. Sparkman and Collins made several turnovers that were very costly. Prater at least attacks the basket, whereas Sparkman and Collins are so hesitant when they get the ball that they end up making terrible decisions. Sparkman has very little offensive ability. Teams know they can slack off on him and help defend the other guys. Perry was off last night and that does not happen often. I agree with you about Adams getting more shot attempts. He is a real good shooter. Redparth should have had more plays ran for him this year, I also agree with you there. I think that pass cut offense really limits players Like Perry and Redparth who are both slashers. And when they can drive to the hoop it should also open up some good looks for Adams on the perimeter.

Didn't know the little PG was a freshman. No disrespect to him-I think he's a tough little player. And now knowing how young he is, I'm impressed in his ability. He could develop into a very nice player.

 

Just very frustrating to see a prime opportunity to win a title slip by. Give Elliott credit, though. They were prepared, they executed well, and made nice adjustments as the game went along, and they won because of that.

 

I've just always been confused at watching MC play...it's like they are more concerned with executing a pre-established game-plan, instead of attacking to win or instead of making adjustments based on actual game scenarios. Case-in-point...that offensive scheme. How do you coach an entire season and by the end of the year, have not learned to maximize your talent through appropriate sets/strategies?

I think what Doc was referring to in his post was that Elliott now has won 4 regional titles since Ashland won it's last one. Greenup nor Boyd has won a regional title since Ashland's last one. Finally the third quote West, Lewis, Raceland, Menifee, and Bath have never won a regional title in the 16th region.

 

Ashland won the Region in both 2001 and 2002. Since then there has been 13 region tournaments played the only winners are: Rose Hill, Morgan, Rowan (3 times), Russell, Elliott (4times), East Carter, and Fleming (2 times).

 

I stand corrected. Since Ashland's last regional title only Rose Hill, Morgan, Rowan, Elliott, East, Russell and Fleming have won titles.

But Jordan Perry is really good, I personally believe they should have not tried to let him score 30 every game and let Redparth do some more.

 

Next year they might not have a choice, and he may end up scoring 30 a game. He's that good. What's his alltime point total? He's been playing varsity since he was in 7th grade I think
