Not even comparable. It's not simply the word that matters. It's what is behind it that makes it completely different.

Pretty bold assumption to apply your statement so broadly there mountain ref. I know plenty of black people who I would be shocked if they uttered it at all, and I definitely think it's a well-founded belief.

 

That's a pretty presumptuous thing to say about someone and in a lot of ways just kind of racist. All black people really don't really go around dropping n-bombs on one another. All people who grew up in Eastern Kentucky, like myself, aren't backwards hicks who don't get proper dental care. Same kind of thing if you say "I bet one person there has" and try to apply that to a whole group.

 

If you work with someone who raped someone, you wouldn't want everyone calling you a rapist just because you worked with them. Same principle here. It seems like you are saying a football player shouldn't get mad at a kid dropping an n-bomb because someone on his team said it to another teammate at one point in time. It just came off like you were saying, oh, well, one black guy dropped an n-bomb on another, so that's exactly the same as a white guy signing a song about hanging black people in trees and drops an n-bomb in the process. Those two things are nothing alike. Neither is right, but they aren't really equal.

I hate precedents being decided by one person who judges what is acceptable for being kicked out.

I finally saw the video - its disgusting. More than disgusting. I was somewhat shocked by it.

 

When I saw the expelling of the students by the president of the university I figured this would be on thin ice.

 

OU is a creation of the Oklahoma Constitution and as a government/state entity directly tied to the state constitution it has to abide by the OK Constitution and the US Constitution.

 

This article captures the issues well. There are limitis on 'freedom of speech'. But an entity that is a direct creation of a state constitution can not curtail rights via simple codes of conduct that may be overly broad.

 

Some of the content of this video could be interpreted as terrorist threatening. Even if the immediate content does not meet that criteria the president probably could open an investigation to determine of there ere acts more in line with the action of direct threatening. Where there is smoke there may well be fire. This was vile. Why would anyone participate if they did not act on their hatred in a more material way.

And I'm the guy who is saying that while I don't agree with what the OU frat boys said, I think there's not a ton of ground that OU could really stand on legally (at least my opinion) if those kids wanted to go public and put their name on a lawsuit.
