March 10, 201511 yr How would the SAE National HQ known about it to do anything if they didn't get caught? I don't understand that question. No, it was a rhetorical, "had this incident not been made public, would the same have been done"?
March 10, 201511 yr Author But you defend a company that fires someone for saying things that reflect poorly on the company? How is this different? Because the company is not a govt entity supported by govt tax dollars. That matters. If this were Notre Dame or Brandeis it would be different. This is a state university.

So you think students have the right to completely ignore the university's code of conduct and do whatever they please with no repercussions?
March 10, 201511 yr Author So you think students have the right to completely ignore the university's code of conduct and do whatever they please with no repercussions? Too general of a statement. I am saying I would not be surprised if due to the university being funded by the state that Freedom of Speech rules apply. The govt seems to be very reluctant to regulate speech. A code of conduct is just a piece of paper until it has to withstand a trial.

March 10, 201511 yr No, it was a rhetorical, "had this incident not been made public, would the same have been done"? I'm confused how their Headquarters would have known about it, had it not been made public, making it impossible for the same to have been done? But to play along, I'd imagine that if the Headquarters staff heard about the incident (without it being made public) they would not have shut down the Chapter, depending on how big it was. I'd imagine that they would have required them to have a review of current members (done by the HQ staff) and removed some as well as placed them on probation and potentially other "self-induced" sanctions.

If it violates the code of conduct, you better believe it. I'm not sure what NKU's Code of Conduct says, but there were "Preachers" on our campus from time to time spewing this hatred. They weren't even students and NKU let it go on. I'm sure you remember seeing them UKMF. Edited March 12, 201511 yr by PurplePride92
March 10, 201511 yr Author If it violates the code of conduct, you better believe it. I guess I am not clear on your view of the university falling under Freedom of Speech rules. Do you consider a state university to be part of the government?

I'm sure you remember seeing them UKMF. Yep. They weren't students though. So, not bound by a Code of Conduct, and if NKU wanted to, they could've made them leave.
March 10, 201511 yr Happend in fall of 1981 when I was a frosh. I remember it on two occasions, right in front of the University Center. I found it ridiculous, but entertaining when some students got really worked up and argued back.
March 10, 201511 yr I guess I am not clear on your view of the university falling under Freedom of Speech rules. Do you consider a state university to be part of the government? Yes I do. But just like any government agency or department, they have rules and regulations that it's employees (or students) are required to follow. If you violate those you can be terminated or expelled.
March 10, 201511 yr Author I remember it on two occasions, right in front of the University Center. Exact same spot in 1981.
