I will go one step further, I think life in the Universe is widespread and much of it is WAY WAY WAY more advanced than us.

Yes, without a doubt. Widespread intelligent life in the universe. Millions, if not billions of civilizations.

 

And yes, being in and around central and eastern Kentucky most of my life, most all intelliegent life in the Universe would be FAR ADVANCED from what we know. Likely no religions on the most advanced civilizations.

Using rough math, the Universe is about 14 Billions years old, Earth has been around for about 4.5 Billion years, that gives many planets an 8 or 9 Billion year heard start on us.

 

Think of it this way, where will we be with technology in 10 years? 100 years? 1 Million years? 1 Billion years? 9 Billion years?

 

 

Very true. However, life would been extinguished many times on those planets over those many years and had to start up again. Only a matter of time before an asteroid or comet wipes us out as happened with the dinosaurs.

Great topic. This is a question I have pondered since I was a child.

Contrary to what the super-religious might think, we are not that unique or special in the Universe. As vast as the Universe is and with as many civilizations as math and science predict there must be, we are but a tiny microbe in the vast ocean of life that is the Universe. Life will naturally evolve given enough time and with a laboratory as large as our Universe is. Life on our little pale blue dot will one day be extinguished but after enough time may evolve again. Of course, the sun is going to get us in a few billion years.

I have no other reason to believe such apart from the basic law of large numbers and a mathematical construct designed to estimate the number of active civilizations in the galaxy at any given time, the Drake equation. The crux of my doubts lie in Fermi's Paradox: there is an apparent contradiction between the high probability estimates for the existence of other civilizations in the universe and humanity's complete lack of contact with -- and evidence for -- those civilizations.

 

Does the math check out? Sort of. I'm definitely willing to admit that the probabilities are very high... but I need more than an equation of probabilities to make me assured of a scientific likelihood.

 

Do I believe that they're out there? Not right now.

 

Do I hope there are? Well, as Carl Sagan wrote: "If it's just us, it seems like an awful waste of space."

I think I just typed in Debunking Ancient Aliens on google and it popped up. Well done and unmasks these programs as nonsense, with much of their "research" a pack of lies and fakery. This guy's mug is featured several times in the documentary.

What amazes me is the number of people in the United States, and the rest of the world as well, that believe the government is withholding information from the people and invoved with conspiracies and cover-ups. The list is long: Aliens/UFO's, paranormal activities, assassination conspiracies (with JFK at the top of that list), New World Order, 9/11 cover-ups, secret societies control the world, the moon landing was a fake, Holocaust revisionism, CIA and AIDS, Reptilian Elite, etc.

 

And the numbers of believers will continue to grow because of the Internet and cable TV. I have my opinions but I'm a skeptic by nature when it comes to this sort of thinking. Imo people are really gullible and paranoid on most of these subjects. I'm not saying that the US government is totally innocent. There have been incidents in our history of cover-ups and conspiracies, but some of the stuff shown on TV borders on ludicrous.
