I can't see that 2A was any better than 1A. Beechwood beat 2A runner up NCC 30-14. Mayfield beat Murray 21-10 and Caldwell Co 40-12. The same Murray team that Desales beat 14-7 thanks to a referee debacle. Mayfield rated higher according to Calpreps than Desales. Just my opinion and we all have our own but I can't see that 2A was any better at the top than was 1A and this has held true most years lately.

I like the Desales talk. Let'em be preseason 1. Let'em believe that little ole Mayfield can't compete at the 2A level. Please KHSAA please don't put us in the big bad 2A level, the level where we already were and won five state titles. That's 3 more titles in 2A than what Desales has. I will take Mayfield vs. the field this year. Mayfield will be better this year than last year, at the end of the year. Some growing pains early perhaps.

I can see where Mayfield fans are coming from. Honestly, Mayfield should be looked at like Trinity and Highlands. People should be asking how can we beat them? Yet they are consistently looked at as the challenger, not the the champion everyone else should be trying to knock off. It is a subtle difference but it is real. I can see where some people make DeSales #1 because they have been really strong the last couple years. But no way CAL or anyone else should be ranked higher than Mayfield.

I respect both teams but am a fan of neither, and your posts sound childish to me. DeSales and other teams in 2A civilly stated that they believe they are equal to or better than Mayfield. Whether they are right or wrong, they have presented their opinion in a reasonable manner.

 

You have responded by disparaging them and their team. Instead of explaining why you believe Mayfield is a superior team in a civil discussion, you immediately went on the attack and mocked them for daring to have an opinion different than yours.

Everything I see stats wise and comparison wise indicates Mayfield would have been a favorite to have won the 2A title last year over Desales and Mayfield returns far more this year than Desales does. As for your argument that until someone knocks them off as the 2A state champions they should remain #1 does not really apply to the Mayfield, winner of the last 3 state titles with a team returning more than Desales. From an objective standpoint I have made a good case for why I think Mayfield should be the preseason #1 .

Come on now. Don't just throw that give them the trophy baloney out there. TP makes a good case for Mayfield to be number 1. Let's hear some facts on why DeSales is the better pick.

In no way did he imply that Mayfield would be the state champions. He simply gave a civil post with his reasons Mayfield should be the preseason #1 (as was brought up earlier in this thread). His points are hard to argue against in my opinion.
