Warren Central High used to be Warren County High

I know that Brooksville changed names to Bracken Co sometime in the 40s (they won state as Brooksville in 1939 I think)....maybe PB98 or RP know more specifics

 

Of course, there is the Deming to Robertson Co name change a couple of years ago.

 

One of the current Jessamine schools (West?) assumed the old Jessamine Co HS Colts' nickname and school colors. East started with a new slate.

So gracious of them to "allow" girls to attend. Actually, the school became Newport Central Catholic after OLP (Our Lady of Providence) closed its doors and the Diocese merged the all boys and all girls schools together. Merged sounds so much better, doesn't it?!

Warren Central High used to be Warren County High

 

Allen County-Scottsville is much the same situation as Warren Central is. Both schools absorbed another in consolidation but did not move their physical building at the time. Both maintained the same mascot and colors. Personally, I don't consider them the same school when this process happens. I'm a bit more inclined to see the schools as unchanged if their name changes when they have another school split off of them, as in the Jessamine County case. South Laurel is another, where it was Laurel County, they changed to South Laurel when North Laurel was created, but everything else stayed the same.

 

As for changes where literally nothing changed but the name, Clinton County (Albany), Cumberland County (Burkesville), and Metcalfe County (Edmonton) all simply changed from the city name to the name of their county with no change in anything else.

Bishop Brossart was St. Mary from 1954 until 1961 when it went from being a parish high school to a central district high school.

As someone completely in the dark on Catholic schools, can you explain the difference between a parish school and a district school? I often see St. Henry listed as St. Henry District but don't see that with any other Catholic schools in northern Kentucky or Louisville.

You aren't asking me, but I'd say no. However, if I'm Bracken County, I'm hanging the 1939 Brooksville state championship banner front-and-center in my gym!

The lone state championship was won in 1939 when the school was Brooksville HS.
