Unreal - coaches will be soon unemployed.

Clearly these coaches took it too far...but is any game plan alteration that would hinder your teams chances of winning OK...for example would it be OK to just sit your starters and let the JV play (and try to win with them)? Interesting Question as to where you draw the line....

I do too, but the article made it sound like the players were very much in on it.

 

But not without the idea put in their heads from the coaches. Shame on those adults.

Ok , seems like I'm always the odd man out on lots of stuff , but I think a stiff " never ever do that again " with a smaller monetary fine would have gotten the point across . The post season ban was over the top to me .

So lets say Walton Verona beats SK in the district championship. Lets say Gallatin Beats Owen in the District Championship. Then Gallatin draw SK. Do you not think the Gallatin fans/coaches/players may think "I kind of wish we would have lost so we wouldn't have to play SK."

Sure, everybody thinks that after the fact. But to lose legitimately by giving your best is way more important than tanking to get a better seed IMO. I'd rather earn my respect, win or lose. Just a bad precedent to start when teaching kids about sports.

I will answer that one for you..............NO, the GC coaches and players will NOT think that. I have never known Gallatin to "wish" to not play anyone, ever.

That's what I was asking earlier (sort of). Where is it OK to draw the line? NBA teams (such as the Sixers) are purposely hurting their chances of winning basketball games this season...for a future payoff. Now clearly they aren't trying to score for the other team but the NBA "rebuilding" or "tanking" model (however you want to view it) is considered acceptable.

 

My question was: Would it be ok for one of these teams to sit their varsity regulars and play their bench/JV kids the whole game? Assuming those kids are playing hard and trying to win would that be okay? Or is that too far? I am really curious to see what people think on this one...

Bad choice of schools/teams to use in your scenario, considering the circumstances.

CRAZY!!! Imagine what the Coaches half time speech would be "Great Job Ladies...They got us right where they want us!!"

The bottom line is you've got to play the good teams sooner or later. Like the old Fram oil filter commercial, you can pay (play) me now or you can pay (play) me later.

Wouldn't have gotten the message across, unless it came from the coaches pockets. And the players wouldn't have learned ANY lesson.

I personally see no issue with it.

 

This happens all the time in the NBA and NFL. They just do it by resting players. That's what these teams should've done. Not been so blatantly obvious about it.

If you don't play to win the game, I have no use for you.
