Good for the TSSAA.

Unbelievable. Not fair at all to those girls who now have to miss the playoffs. Feel bad for them, especially the Seniors.

I do too, but the article made it sound like the players were very much in on it.

The players were absolutely in on it.

Reminds me of that episode of South Park when they were trying to lose baseball games so they could play video games all summer.

The players were absolutely in on it.

I still blame the coach, but yeah I don't feel as bad now after I re read it. This is what is part of what is wrong with sports today. Yes everyone wants to win and that is great, but these are still young adults that are getting ready to venture out into the real world. Not a very good example at all of that coach being a role model for those girls.

We all know there's a big difference in the Highlands/ND "stall" game as that is a plan/strategy to keep it close for your team and eventually try to win the game. I dont know if I have an opinion on it yet on banning both teams from the tournament this year (for the senior players who bought into the coaches' plans). Seems harsh but the integrity of the game is compromised in this situation so I think it is fair along with the fine. How funny would it have been if it got to the point of defending your own basket!! (this is a joke and not really funny at all)

what would be really interesting is (aside from being opposite the regional powerhouse) what is the skill level of these teams....meaning, it'd be nice to know if both teams legitimately would have a shot at the regional absent the powerhouse, and so now both teams are eliminated.

This story is fascinating. I agree with the general sentiment that you always play to win and clearly coaches can't let a game get to this point....but when losing is actually winning, is it okay to alter a game plan or not? Interesting question.

If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. While I can understand the strategy I know as a parnet I could never stomach the execution of it. It would drive me crazy watching my child preform poorly, intentionally or not.

So lets say Walton Verona beats SK in the district championship. Lets say Gallatin Beats Owen in the District Championship. Then Gallatin draw SK. Do you not think the Gallatin fans/coaches/players may think "I kind of wish we would have lost so we wouldn't have to play SK."

Just playing Devil's Advocate.

Agree with all of your statement. That aside I have been watching the game for so long conventionally I can't even picture what it would look like otherwise, so as I side note I'm curious to see what it would look like.

Girls HS Basketball Teams Booted From Postseason For Playing To Lose

Heck yes the girls were in on it. They even tried to shoot into the wrong basket to give the other team some points.

This is NOTHING like a 4 corners, stall ball strategy because each team was trying to lose on purpose. You are trying to win in 4 corners stall ball.

The bottom line is you've got to play the good teams sooner or later. Like the old Fram oil filter commercial, you can pay (play) me now or you can pay (play) me later.
