For Those Who Want To Require Drug Screening For Welfare Checks...

Featured Replies

This article is clearly politically biased. I bet the drug use among the general population is higher than what is reported here. I would like some data and analysis from someone without a political agenda. I actually have no problems with drug testing welfare recipients, as long as it is cost effective. But to be fair, we also need to drug test corporate welfare recipients!

It's our money and the idea that it is not is a basic cause of a lot of our problems.

It is our money, but the Supreme Court has spoken and requires it to spent on the mass incarceration of individuals with minor offenses where they receive free taxpayer funded health care, food, lodging and education. Most get free legal representation also. We always here the conservative talking points on "welfare", but we never seem to hear objections to MASSIVE spending on the legal, judicial and penal costs associated with the prosecution of crimes that are relatively minor.

What would you prefer? $100 on the front end, or $1million on the back end?

Both of the numbers you just listed are pure nonsense.

I wish we did not spend so much on the legal system as well. I think we spend too much on just about all facets of govt. But what do you want to do - just let people go without any punishment when they commit crimes??

Invest in the front end.

Always amazing to me that people want the government out of their personal lives, but have no issue at all with the government being in people's business who they feel are "taking their money". It's not our money. We pay to enjoy the freedoms and safety nets. There but for the Grace of God go I, I say.

Much like the "Cafeteria Catholics/Christians" example I often hear over in the Religion forum. Government is the big bad bully until being one fits the agenda.

They could be studying for these drug tests? :idunno:

Who on here has said to "pull the plug" on welfare?

Oh, for God's sake. That's the entire goal of anti-welfare legislation and sentiments when it comes to drug stuff.

Hardcore conservatives are the ones who wanted mass incarceration. It seems ingenuous to complain about the fruits of those efforts.

I'm usually on top of Ky GA stuff. But this missed me.

That's just a synopsis. Reading through the legislation is pretty tedious.

Just google "pill mill bill". May have been well-intentioned, but as is often the case...

I hope Obama's proposal for free community college gets support. IMO, it has the potential to reduce welfare roles.

Not when there aren't any jobs available to be had, and the outlook doesn't look too good.
