Saying he is not in my top 10 is "never really have anything positive to say." I know he's your boy but I have him in the 11 12 range. No shame in that.

 

I don't bash him. I say he's a nice player and he is a nice player. I take Cooper T's entire totality of his game over Snapp's. No bashing.

 

What does Coop do that Snapp doesn't do? Just so I'm clear on why you think he is a top 10 player and Snapp isn't.

 

Coaches seem to agree with me and that's good enough for me but I just wonder how you can have this evaluation of Ethan when you've only seen him play maybe two or three times?

 

Get out and watch him this summer then get back to me.

 

Coop plays better defense. I'll give him that. But offensively it's not that close for the simple fact that Coop struggles from outside and Ethan has unlimited range.

 

To Cooper's credit, he knows what he does well and that's all he tries to do. Get to the rim and score. But I don't think he handles the ball or passes as well as Ethan. If you saw him over the summer with similar talent as what Coop has, you'd know this.

You completely disparage his teammates' basketball skills by calling them a "quarterback" "fullback" and "undersized center."

 

IMO CCH didn't need any special D against him. He had A LOT of times where he had the ball with a defender straight up and couldn't escape man-to-man D.

 

I'm not bashing his teammates. I've told Coach Snapp the same thing before and I have joked with the players about it as well. They play hard and that's all that matters to me. They have success because they outhustle their opponents but I doubt either would tell you basketball is their primary sport over football.

 

I wasn't there so I can't comment on the defense Covcath played on him but the report I got was he was doubled and face guarded more often than not.

Snapp is better. He has 0 around him. Cooper has two very good players on his team.

It's a tough thread if you're a Newport teammate of Snapp.

I do find it interesting that before the season we read about how good the Newport team would be and how they had nice talent and yet when we need to promote their best player we hear how they're not really basketball players.

Newport was pretty young last year for the most part.

 

Outside of Mike Turner, they were all either sophomores or juniors. They will be much more experienced this year.

 

- Ethan Snapp will likely lead the region in scoring. (20 ppg last year as a soph)

 

- Paul Price (14.3 ppg, 5 rpg) and Dom Joseph (6 ppg, 5 rpg) are two of the better defenders in the region and play with extremely high motors.

 

- Kam Covington averaged 10 and 9 as a sophomore...that production is only going to increase this year with added experience and time in the gym/weightroom.

 

- Najee Williams and Rico Hollis are two of the better young guys in the region.

 

- Newport returns their top 3 scorers from last year and 4 of their top 5 from a team that finished 15-11.

 

I like them and Newcath to get out of the 36th this coming year. Have you seen them play? They have some talent and more importantly, play together well as a TEAM.

 

 

I said top 5-7 in the region.

 

Consistency, like most years, will be their biggest issue. The talent and pieces are there for them to be able to beat anyone listed 5-10 but that lack of consistency is why I wouldn't put them as the 5th best team in the region.

I posted stats because someone asked for them. I don't need stats to justify one player over the other or judge overall skill.

 

We will agree to disagree. Cooper might play tougher D but Snapp's pull up game is just as good, if not better and he gets to the rim just as well because of a tighter handle. Don't know who finishes better but Snapp gets to the line a lot because he attacks the rim. He isn't one of the state's leading free throw shooters because of simply shooting jumpers. Snapp is a lot tougher than you're giving him credit for. He doesnt show the same emotion as Coop but that doesnt mean one is tougher than the other. Anyone who has seen Ethan will tell you he has no fear regardless of opponent, and I'm sure the same can be said about Coop.

 

 

Hopefully the two meet in the region tournament.

I don't think it's just about stats. The seeing eye will sometimes show you things that stats wont. That said, I am very happy to see Stockwell doing so well this year. I have heard nothing but great things about him, and have seen him grow as a player over the years. He brings a lot to that team this year. The fact that his name is even mentioned with the top 10, much less a top 5 nod, is fantastic!! Good for him.
