Of the choices above, pick which school that has the best overall football program. That includes all the following:

* All level of play - 9th 10th 11th 12th

* Fan Support

* Coaches

* Wins

* Titles

* Facilities

* Etc.

I mean include everything in your result, not just this years success or failure but all time. Which school is the best in football overall.

Past choices have been --

Ashland (82%)

Boyle County (33%) -- edged Beechwood (28%)

Covington Catholic (44%) -- Corbin had 36%

Danville (79%)

Elizabethtown (56%)

Franklin-Simpson (28%) -- Fort Knox was second with 22%

Glasgow (39.4%) -- George Rogers Clark was a close second with 36.8%

Highlands (76.5%)

Iroquois (100%) -- in a squeaker

Johnson Central (40.8%)

Knox Central (38.9%) -- edging Knott Central (37.2%) by a vote

Lexington Catholic (50%) -- Lloyd Memorial had 14%

Male (53%) -- Mayfield was second with 21%

Newport Central Catholic (79.6%)

Owensboro Catholic (52%)

Paducah Tilghman (31.1%) -- Edged Pikeville by two votes (29.2%)

Russell (42.3%) -- edged Rockcastle County by three votes

St. Xavier (83.3%)

Trinity (82.3%)

Union County (by default)

Valley (by default)

So of the choices, which includes all the football playing schools in Kentucky that begin with the letter 'W', which one is best?

This is the last letter. After we determine the best 'W' school, there will be a tournament of all of the letter winners. Let's just say there are some interesting matchups already.

Someone may have to work hard on this one.

Woodford is the only one that stands out in my mind for this one and I think better cases can be made for others I guess.

I remember that Woodford had a great run in the late 70's and early 80's in AAA but only made it to one final I think, losing that one.

This is a toughie.

I know that Washington County's greatest advance in post season was the AA semi-finals in '79 when they lost to Ft Campbell.

Still the Commanders had some solid teams with Reed at the helm.

They also produced the Smith brothers who started a couple of years for UK at DL (Jeff Smith) and LB (Larry Smith) during the Curci and Claiborne eras. Eric Smith was not a bad LB either.

Personally, I thought it was clear cut (for obvious reasons). IMO, Woodford County, Warren Central, and Waggener are the only three that should even be considered. I know Central went to two finals, picking the wrong two years as Trinity was on their record run, and the aforementioned final appearance for Woodford. I dunno. I think Central has been much more consistent in the win column for the past 25 years.

Warren Central. 2 State 4a runner up finishes in 89 and 90 to Trinity. Been to the state 4A semi finals 2 of the past 3 years and had some very good years over the past 25 years. Not to mention they can boast 1990 Mr. Football Damon Hood.

That one surprises me since Beechwood's success has spanned a much longer time period. I guess 33% of the voters were from Boyle County and 28% were from the Ft Mitchell area.:sssh:

If this is all about championships, and school legacy.... no contest, BW wins hands down. like you said more people in Boyle Co.

This thread is about the "W" category not the "B".

I don't discount what the two of you are saying but I think this one is about the best "W." :thumb:

Williamsburg is in my district, in the eighties it was always them and Pineville, and in the nineties they were down except for like three to four years, they always seem to be in the hunt in the playoffs and probably have one of the best coaching staffs in the state outside of ours
