This will be my 12th Derby in a row and my 11th Oaks in 12 years.

If I had to pick my Top 3 prior to the post position draw, I'd go with Carpe Diem, American Pharoah, and Mubtahij

ABC just reported that boxes are going for THIRTY FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. They also reported that rooms are still available in the hotels/motels but they are charging twice the normal rate.

Here are the contenders in the derby. Post positions have not been drawn yet.

American Pharoah 5-2

Dortmond 4-1

Carpe Diem 15-1

Mubtaahij 10-1

Materiality 12-1

Firing Line 16-1

Frosted 16-1

International Star 18-1

Upstart 20-1

Elkabeir 33-1

Far Right 33-1

It's a Knockout 40-1

Bolo 40-1

Danzigs Moon 40-1

Ocho Ocho Ocho 40-1

Mr. Z 40-1

Keen Ice 40-1

War Story 40-1

Tencendur 66-1

Obviously these are MORNING LINE odds.

I watched the Arkansas Derby live. AP didn't break a sweat and won the race hand ridden. If I can get 5-2 on him at the derby, I'm betting a ship load of money on him.

Looks like my seats to the Derby aren't materializing:( Guess the bucket list will have to wait. I read last night that box seats are going for $1,000....mine probably got sold.

some buddies and I have a box for the Oaks. Taking the Mrs. with me to the Derby, just buying infield tickets but going with a guy who has an owners pass so we have quiet place to bet, use restrooms, etc.

The Derby is always fun, but I'm thrilled about Oaks day from a betting standpoint this year.

The favorite opened today at 7-2 with several other horses just behind her and I'm thinking none of them will get lower than 3-1. There's going to be value somewhere in that field and it could be a really nice race for bettors.

I was going to post something snarky like a picture of puppy with a sad face or something in response to this, but I had seats in one of the Jockey Club Suites when the Breeders' Cup was in town a few years back that were yanked out from under me a few days before the event. It was brutal. Sorry, doomer.

For the very first Churchill Breeder's Cup a buddy got us his brother in law's box seat on the finish line in the la de dah section of Churchill. Every single person looking for their seats came to our box first as we definitely looked out of place in our jeans surrounded by the men and women in full length fur coats. Spent all day having our tickets checked by the ushers. Felt like I was in college again with the profiling.
