Proud of how well the Birds played tonight. Actually looked like they had some fun out there.

 

Kendall shot the 3 extremely well in the first half. Birds as a group didn't shoot it very well but managed to stay in the game in the first half. Second half they scored on quite a few back door cuts. With Avery defending Harris away from the bucket, the Birds got about 5 layups on nice passes. Just kept waiting to Holmes to break loose with that 10-0 run and it really never happened. Holmes was able to put the game away in the last 3 minutes.

Has anyone ever mentioned on here how good James Bolden IS? WOW.

 

I can't even remember the 9 shots Walter says he missed tonight. I thought he was almost perfect. His crossover step back in the first half buckled the defense and drew a collective sigh from the stands. He hit a fall away jumper from the right baseline in the first half that was highlight material. He had a tip in late in the game when it was still a one possession game that was special.

For those thinking this may have been the case, ask those in attendance how dad coached the game. He was working the officials all night, and not so pleasant with the Bulldog players during a few time outs.

Very impressed with how the Birds were able to stay in this one so late into the game, sounds like a hell of an effort.

Not so surprising imo. Typical Friday night home game for Holmes where they probably had a small uninterested crowd and Holmes figured they could win just by outscoring their opponent. They probably just went through the motions on defense. Looks like Highlands had no answer for Bolden so he just jacked it up.

Really??? Did not hear anyone saying "This is the Year" Highlands is down. Hahaha. I will not take away from the effort of the kids by playing your childish games. Moving on.

I didn't see the game but I can imagine what you are saying to be true.

 

At first I was a little shocked by the final score, but this assessment does sound consistent with how inconsistent the Bulldogs can be all the while having talented players.

 

I don't think they're doing themselves any favors by playing with the mindset that they can always turn it on when they need to to get the "W".

 

As the post season is just around the corner it would benefit them greatly if they could learn to enter each contest more inspired as their current mindset could condition them wrongly away from playing tough for an entire 32 minutes.

 

Building mental stamina is so crucial along with the physical, and if they've yet to prove to themselves that they're capable of that it will hinder them greatly when they undoubtedly will need to come tourney time.

 

It has to be second nature to give it their all for an entire game, and if they're not mentally conditioned to do so, it will become so evident what's missing from their game when they come up short against teams like CovCath who already have this figured out.

 

If they're not 100 certain that they've got it in them then self doubt and giving up is just a finger snap a way, while teams with die hard complete confidence will eat them alive.

 

"The Tortoise and the Hare" is not just a cute little story. It was meant to teach a true lesson, and it wouldn't be a stretch to think that they could as a team benefit greatly from revisiting its message.
