Marshawn Lynch conspiracy theory?

While the play call was questionable at best, if Wilson makes a better throw everyone is talking about what a ballsy call Pete made. If you watch the replay the play was there and Wilson just didn't make a good pass. He throws to the left shoulder it's a TD.

Yep, should have thrown it back shoulder.

Yep. It boggles my mind that once again Wilson has escaped any hint of criticism. He played very poorly. He made the mistake that cost them the game. No one says a word about him.

I refuse to read this thread and can't believe it is up to 56 posts.

This is more amazing than the McDonald's thread getting to two pages.

I really like Wilson but it is amazing that he escapes all criticism because he's likable. Yes, the play call wasn't dumb, but once it's called the players have to execute. Yes, Butler made a heck of play, but it was a bad throw.

Wilson took the blame for the poor throw and I have heard many say it was not a good throw. It was just overshadowed by the call, which makes sense. The headline, "WILSON MAKES A TERRIBLE THROW on a terribly called play by the coach" doesn't have the ring.

You are probably right in that Wilson does escape some criticism, but in fairness, with it all on the line he has not give us much to criticize him about. He was putrid most of the NFC title game, but he shined when it counted so it was glossed over. That performance, both good and bad, spoke for itself.

Wilson was terrible in both the NFC title game and the Super Bowl. Not a word mentioned about it. Can you imagine had Tony Romo, or Andy Dalton, or Peyton Manning turned in those performances?

He was terrible in the NFC title game, but made the plays at the end. His performance spoke for itself so I am not sure where everyone is getting that he got 0 criticism for his performance. He was being crucified on twitter during the game. It is kind of like Tim Tebow, you could crush him until you were blue in the face, but when he delivered the goods when it mattered most, people had a trump card.

I didn't think Wilson played poorly in the Superbowl, outside the last play. Slow start, but he was solid. Higher QBR and rating than Brady.

Tebow got crushed regardless if they won or lost.

Wilson was terrible. He didn't complete a pass until like the 4:30 point in the 2nd quarter!

You can give him whatever QBR & rating ya want, he completed a worse percentage of his throws, less yards, less TDs, and took more sacks than Brady. Anyone with eyeballs watching that game knows which QB played better....It wasn't Wilson.

And nobody except your imaginary arguing buddies are saying he was better. :D He was solid, like he normally is.

It's the Cowboys vs. Patriots, same situation, what dominates the headlines and the talk immediately following the SB? Garrett's play-call or Romo throwing the SB losing pick?

Excellent point!

Romo, but Jerry Jones would be there to fire Garrett on the spot for not giving the ball to DeMarco Murray (or for not throwing it up high to Dez). Then again I would not think they would attempt a play like that, but it is the Cowboys, so maybe so. If it was a pass, it was coming off play action. I didn't have a problem with passing the ball, just the call itself was horrible. You give your guys the best chance to win, or short of that, the best chance not to fail. The third thing happened. Chernobyl.

As a side topic, I have given Brady props for doing more with less through his time. Then you have Russell Wilson. He has Lynch, but dude has nothing outside of that. I keep forgetting they dumped their two best play makers. Had that been Golden Tate, Percy Harvin, Dez Bryant, etc., maybe that play is made or at least not made by the defender.

A large part of the NFL's popularity is based on gambling. Gamblers won't like a coach or other team officials gaming the system based on who they want to promote....to the detriment of the team's chances of winning. I can't believe this has occurred. Is Goodell going to look into it? This in some ways is similar to "throwing the game." The NFL cannot abide this.

There was a BIG difference between the Patriots winning and Seattle winning. The bookies would have made more money if Seattle had won, I'm talking A LOT MORE MONEY. The bookies would have made 3x more money if Seattle had won.

Maybe Wilson is the next Otto Graham. "Wills" his teams to wins but doesn't have the sexy numbers.

Foote’s point about the different ways that rules apply to different people is a sound one, even in the NFL. Lynch’s behavior is tolerated because he’s one of the best running backs in the league, but a lesser player would likely get less rope from their own team if they were unwilling to deal with parts of their job they don’t like. That’s even more true when you move out of the realm of NFL sports and into less glamorous professions.

It’s not the only opinion Foote has shared about the Seahawks in the last couple of days. During the final seconds of the Super Bowl, Foote tweeted that the Seahawks gave the game away with their final offensive play call and seemed to refer to the notion that coach Pete Carroll wanted Russell Wilson in the spotlight by adding “stop trying to make your golden boy a HERO.”

Former Seahawks receiver Ben Obomanu joined Brian Abker of Sports Rado 950 KJR in Seattle on Wednesday and said he’s heard from current players on the team that believe the decision to throw on second-and-goal at the 1-yard line was rooted in a desire by the coaching staff to make Russell Wilson the MVP instead of running back Marshawn Lynch.

“I’ve heard a couple people express that sentiment,” Obomanu said. “A couple players, current players, have expressed that sentiment and I can give them some leeway because I know it’s hard to process and when you take a step back and you take a couple weeks post-game, post the emotions running, you start trying to find questions to ask yourself and when you get back with your parents, your friends, your buddies, all these kind of ideas creeping in. I think though some guys have expressed that same concept of actually believing that the organization in some kind of way was trying to allow Russell Wilson to be the star.

“With the whole thing with Marshawn and interviews and not giving interviews and the MVP conversation and cars and all those things that happen on the field, the guys have expressed ideas of it being easier to handle Russell Wilson accepting those kind of things and having that kind of thrust upon him as opposed to the possibilities that are unknown with Marshawn. I don’t know if guys actually believe it. I don’t know if they’re hearing it from family and friends but that’s one, I don’t know if you guys have heard it, but that’s one of the craziest kind of things that I’ve heard in my conversations with guys trying to process this whole thing.”
