Also it's not an invitational. Teams have to win a regional championship to qualify (the only championship some of the teams will ever have a chance to win). It creates a somewhat level playing field and a team has to win 6-7 games to be champion. Granted some of the games are blowouts, but those occur in the bigger tourneys as well. Does anybody discount Highlands' and Bowling Green's football championships since they didn't play against Trinity/St X in the championship game?

Not taking anything away from Highlands football it speaks for itself, but if they played Trinity and Male every year they wouldn't have as many titles that's for sure. Not saying they woudn't win some but it would be lopsided scores. Again Highlnds is a great football program with tradition and history, but jsut saying.

LB crushed it all week on press row in Frankfort. Spent a lot of hours updating games. Great to catch up with him and glad the 9th brought back both championships !

I'd say you're more "eligible" than "invited" at the regional level (I know, splitting hairs . I was speaking mainly about the state tournament; you have to earn your way in. I know it's not sanctioned by the KHSAA so it's not an "official" state championship. The winner is actually just a "Statewide Basketball Tournament Champion", or " State Champ" for short. Sort of like a NAIA national champ compared to a NCAA D1 champ

Congrats to the tournament organizers, teams, and tournament champions for winning a regular in-season tournament that only small schools are invited to play in. It's good preparation for the post-season KHSAA State Tournament and Championship, which occurs Feb-March and includes every school regardless of size, concluding with only one school being crowned State Champion.

If I heard correctly Kentucky is one of the only states left that does not separate its State Champions by class. So you are basically saying every single state champion in all the other states are not state champions and should not be crowned as a state champion. You are saying in football every single team is really not a state champion then correct?

 

It seems to me this is Kentucky's way of keeping its tradition of not separating into classes to crown a State Champion like every other state. So what exactly is your problem with the fact that this tournament which is done just like the big State tournament gives Class A schools a chance to say they are a State Champion. Its a chance to show that on an even playing scale by its class that a team can win a State Championship. It gives kids at these small schools something to actually truly shoot for. Quite honestly by having this tournament to crown a small school state champion, it keeps Kentucky up with the times on how things are done in today's age.

Congrats to Holy Cross. Is this their first All A State Championship? Or did they win it too back when they had Rachel Lantry and others? I know the Holy Cross boys also won it a few years ago on a last second shot too.
