Holmes 64 Highlands 62

I am really having a hard timing following all of the nonsense in this thread so maybe I can ask a few questions and someone can hopefully discuss them without offending or ripping on someone. Why did Tubbs not play last night? Is the gag order out on why Combs did not play much in second half? How many seniors does Holmes have that see meaningful minutes? Did not recognize the coach from Holmes, where was he prior to coming to Holmes? Glad to hear Leigh is feeling okay. IMO, Holmes was going to have a tough time with her because of her ability to put the ball on the floor and use either hand to score around the basket. Lukjan gave some valuable minutes, but is not Leigh or Combs. Thought the downfall of the Birds last night were some ill advised shots that were taken in the latter stages of the game when they still had a lead. Some will say you do not want to step off the gas and others will say unless it is a chippy, pull it out and get your offense set and work for an easier opportunity or a foul.

As for Combs, someone already let the cat out of the bag. As for Leigh, spoke with parents this morning. Definitely a concussion, still in bed this morning and is going to the Dr today to see how bad.

And I agree, Lukjan and Clucky had nice minutes last night. But I also agree that Leigh would have been a real tough match up for Holmes for several reasons and on both ends of the floor. Not having 3 starters on the floor in the last 5 minutes really bothered HHS and the ones that were out there were beat because of the minutes they were forced to play with 2-3 kids out of the normal rotation. No excuses at all. Just explaining why decision making at the end may not have been the greatest.

Okay. Now heard from the Holmes contingent. Anyone want to take a gander at the Highlands questions?

I haven't been served papers on the gag order, but I won't feed into any of the speculation. I saw it happen, but don't know the why.

I'm REALLY wishing I had been able to go to the HC/Holmes game.

Hypothetical.... If I got to pick who HHS would play in the region finals, right now...

disclaimer: I'm making an assumption & hope that HHS will be in the regional final. So no flack necessary on that comment.

Picking between HC or Holmes, I'd have to flip a coin.

The only thing I know for sure: I won't miss the rematch(es) - not matter who is playing

Keep in mind good chance Highlands faces either one before the finals.

Very true...assuming they both make it out of their district.

Holmes plays Ryle next Friday!

Just my opinion and I don't want to upset my Ryle buddies, but I think Holmes is a real tough match up for Ryle. IMO, Ryle is better suited to upset HC. But again, "That's why they play the game!" (in my best Chris Berman voice.)

Absolutely...

I'd rather we only have to meet one of them and it be in the finals...

No matter what, it's going to be a great week for some hs basketball

My Pandaish contribution on a much smaller scale. Hard to get good angles from the stands.

The chances are better that a team other than "The Big Three" wins the 9th Region, than HC or Holmes not making it out of their district.

Tubbs out resting knee (had surgery on it this summer)

2 seniors (Mayes, Parker)

Coach Perkins was a boys assistant at holmes before taking over girls program. And before that girls coach at North Hardin

Thank god Parker is gone! Holy cow! Gulley and Johnson kept them close, but Parker put them on her shoulders with some huge 3's in the comeback. Harris also had a big one and quietly finished with a nice game.

Looks like that new camera works pretty darn good!

Well keep in mind that Holmes kills everyone on the offensive boards. It's what they do! Also keep in mind we played without our 6'2" center for 31 of the 32 minutes tonight. That makes a huge difference for our team. No, not excuses, just addressing the rebounding comment. Also, our second leading rebounder spent the entire second half on the bench. So I agree with what you saw, but our two best rebounders only played 2 quarters between them.

I also agree that they need to be stronger with the ball. Especially at the end of the game. But also keep in mind that HHS played the entire second half without two starters on the floor and the last 5 minutes of the game without 3 starters when Graves fouled out. That was exactly when Holmes made the run. Not taking ANYTHING away from the Holmes kids because they showed a ton of heart coming back. I was impressed they didn't give up.

You say hhs played a quarter or two without your 2 best rebounders but you failed to mention Holmes played 4 quartera without their leading score who also rebounds pretty well and have a penchant for getting to lose balls.

Both are very long shots. But are you saying both teams are a lock to make it out of the district? Because an outside team winning two games to win the region is pretty far out there. So if you are so sure that it's a higher percentage, I assume you feel you have no doubts who will come out of the 35th?

Sorry, forgot to put "IMO".

It's interesting to read on here how HHS played without two of their biggest players for most of they game, then say but no excuses. Has anyone mentioned that Holmes played the whole game without their leading scorer.
