You say hhs played a quarter or two without your 2 best rebounders but you failed to mention Holmes played 4 quartera without their leading score who also rebounds pretty well and have a penchant for getting to lose balls.

 

No. That was already established in this thread. The very first post! And I was addressing the rebounding comment. Nothing else. And in fact, HHS played without their top 3 rebounders for most of the 4th...after Graves fouled out. So you can pull tidbits of my comments out, but make sure they stay within context of when they were said.

 

Leigh played 1 minute, Combs played about 10-11 minutes, and Graves fouled out with about 5 minutes left in the game. So I understand Tubbs is a very nice player and their leading scorer, but HHS was nowhere near full strength either for the majority of the game and down 3 starters for the last 5 minutes when they made the run. No excuses at all. Holmes still had to execute and provide the energy it took. I'm just answering questions and informing why they may not have rebounded as well or looked as secure with the ball in the last part of the 4th quarter. When HHS starters were in, they had no issue handling the ball. In fact, until the last 5 minutes of the game, I bet Holmes had more turnovers than HHS. Both teams play excellent defense.

It's interesting to read on here how HHS played without two of their biggest players for most of they game, then say but no excuses. Has anyone mentioned that Holmes played the whole game without their leading scorer.

Holmes starts got in foul trouble early. They had 3 of them sitting late second quarter with two fouls I believe. Then Englemon sat about 6 minutes of the third with 4 fouls. Regardless, both teams over came the adversity thrown at them, and this was a very good game!

I think it is a 4 horse race with 1. HC 2. Holmes 3. Highlands 4. NCC. Crazier things have happened but I'm thinking anyone else who wins the region is a huge longshot, including the perennial region teams of Boone, Ryle and NDA; just don't see it happening with the top 3 among the best in the state. Strongest year for 9th in quite a while.

Agreed. Barth (HHS 6th man) is an 8th grader and played a ton last night due to issues. Nice to see young blood stepping up in big time games.
