No D1 team would ever lose to a high school team. D2 team no, unless against Oak Hill, who would have a shot against some. D3 for some of the elite teams. No teams from Kentucky though......except maybe, maybe MMI. Three Lions would appreciate that.

I think that the way the question is worded, I would have to answer "yes". If, on the other hand, TBF intended to exclude the basketball factories like DeMatha and Oak Hill, I would have to say "no".

 

At least, not unless you were counting colleges like Cumberland College or KCC.

As I said, I wouldn't consider Oak Hill a high school team, they put together teams with players across the nation.

 

Basic top notch high school teams like South Laurel and J-Town and even schools from across the nation that are built basically from within their own state would not beat a college team.

The state of Virginia must not consider them a High School, since they dont compete for a state championship.

 

If you openly recruit your players, I believe you lose the status as a High School in most peoples eyes.

To answer the question, my opinion is D1 - never.

During an open gym at a local NAIA College, I watch a local state champion, nationally ranked high school team pair up and play that schools team. They had this same argument, because they had four players that signed full rides to D-I schools, and the other player signed to a D-II school.

 

The small NAIA school was nationally ranked and they were mostly juniors ad seniors. The college players won ever game that they played. Two of those high school players went on to play in the NBA.

 

I know that it was only open gym during the summer time, but it is truly hard for a high school team to play these guys. Now if it was a losing program at a small college, then they might have won. We have to remeber that each of those college players was probably the stud on their high school team.

That doesn't mean that 63% of the people voting yes played college basketball or athletics. Use a poll asking college athletes and then you might get an accurate poll. Could it happen, yes, only if the right teams play. It would not be a regular occurance.

Oak Hill used to destroy Alice Lloyd College everytime they used to scrimmage.

A top echelon HS team such as Oak Hill or North College Hill could beat a poor D-III team. I don't think either of those two HS teams would beat NKU, a mid-range D-II school and certainly would not beat a D-I school.

 

I think that even a very good HS team would lose to all but the worst college teams, but the thread asks if it "can" happen.
