Father and son arrested for assault of Louisville high school basketball coach

Featured Replies

A father and son have been arrested for allegedly assaulting the Doss High School basketball coach following a loss to Trinity over the weekend.

Demetrius Franklin, the father of a Doss basketball player, has been accused of punching coach Tony Williams multiple times as Williams walked to the locker room after the game. The son, Daelyn Franklin, is also accused of joining in on the attack and striking Williams in the face.

Is this what high school athletics is coming to?

What punishments should be handed down if true?

What do you know about the incident?

Who gets to investigate this in addition to the police?

Which investigation will be the most accurate?

The sad thing is that they scheduled the game earlier that day because the Joe B. Hall Classic got cancelled.

Not sure what you mean by that? Please explain. Thanks.

If true, the player should obviously be expelled from school at the very least, and never be allowed to play a KHSAA sport again.

My first guess would be that this is all over playing time, or the lack thereof. I don't know a thing about the player, that's just a total guess on my part.

If charges are true. Both charged with assault. Son expelled from school and banned from further participation by KHSAA.

I saw most of it. All true. Father should do time, even if it is just 72 hrs. If they get off with a slap on the wrist it will send the wrong message. The attack was ugly.

Wouldn't 72 hours qualify as a slap on the wrist?

What a train wreck! It's generally tough to judge these incidents until all the facts come out, but it doesn't sound promising for the player or Father. The recent LIT incident with Central's boys coach comes to mind. Once all the facts are heard, it sounds like some bad decision were levied by both party's.

I've heard problems were officials have been attacked after games, but generally not Coaches.

From another source: the dad that was arrested used to be an assistant coach at Ballard under Scotty Davenport? Anyone know if this is true? Went on to say he got fired and sent home from an out of state tournament for alcohol related incident among other things. Anyone know anything further? Really just my morbid curiosity at work.

It might be true, but I wouldn't trust the KSR comment section for everything it says.

I am saying that the game was set up the day of so there was no preparation if it came down to that. On the case of playing time, they were playing Trinity so I would guess it was a short bench. Also, I would guess this built up over time though.

Probably because there are no dissenting opinions.

...and it didn't happen in NKY.
