Will anyone else reach 1,000 coaching wins in Men's College Basketball?

Featured Replies

Coach K has reached the astronomical level of 1,000 wins.

Who else has even a remote shot?

Jim Boeheim probably will get there with 962 and counting.

Anyone else?

Boeheim will get there.

Huggins and Roy are both within 300.

Self is relatively young, 52, and has 544. I could see him getting there.

I could see Roy Williams hanging on long enough to get it. I think he's close to 750.

Rick Pitino would have if he didn't spend time on the NBA.

Bob Huggins is closing in on 700 I believe, gut I don't they he will.

Boeheim for sure.

I can see Huggins and Roy making it provided their health allows them to keep coaching.

Self has a great chance.

When Coach Cal leaves and Billy D comes to UK, he might have a shot. I think he's right around 500.

Donovan is sitting at 496, and is 49 years old.

I don't see him getting there. I think he stays at Florida another 4-5 years until Pitino retires, and then assuming little Richard isn't a legit candidate, takes over at UofL.

I don't see him ever coming to Kentucky.

They play a lot more games today then they used to. Going to see a few coaches get there.

If Brad Stevens would have stayed in college, he might have made it to 1000.

Huggins is at 755 total, I believe 684 D-1...

Agreed. Donovan will never coach at UK.

To me this isn't a forever unbreakable moment like say Cy Young's wins record in baseball. There's a reason some of the baseball pitching records will never be broken, namely that no one pitches enough to hit some of them. College basketball is much the reverse. There are more games played routinely these days compared to way back when. Some of these teams are getting on average 6-7 more games a year compared to say, 30 years ago. I'm not saying there will be many or that it might not take a long time for us to see it, but IMO the only way it doesn't happen again is if they no longer play the sport.

I agree, will leave Florida for a couple years and come back to coach college at Florida State! :jump:

If he was going to, there aren't many reasons he wouldn't have taken it in one of the two times it came open that he was a favorite for it. I guess I'd subscribe to never say never, but I find it unlikely.

UK in 1966 made the finals and only played 29 games...today getting to the finals is 40 games
