Everbody has opinoins and some are homers to there programs.

I'm really suprised this is as close as it is.

I'm not. I think you don't realize what Rockastle has accomplished in the last 15 years and their consistency. Quite frankly I've respected Russell football for a while but it has been nearly 30 years since their last title until this year. It's not like they've been in Louisville a lot, particularly recently.

That said, I voted for Russell because they have been at it for quite a while, not because of anything they've done in the last 15 or so years.

Just my take.

Some more material from the KHSAA for no particular reason.

Larkey's average win/loss record per year: 9 wins 3 losses

McGlone's average win/loss record per year: 8 wins 4 losses

Larkey's Winning %: 73.2%

McGlone's Winning %: 68.1%

McGlone has 2 Titles.

Larkey has 2 Appearence's.

I'd put Ken Barrett from Russellville a step above McGlone and Larkey. He was a great coach down here in western KY. :thumb:

And he has 3 state titles. :D

I do realize what Rockcastle has accomplished in the last 15 years. But like you said, Russell has been doing the same thing for quite awhile. I also realize I am a little biased on this one but I do believe Russell's long history sets them apart.

Also though Russell had 29 years between state titles. They were in the State semi-finals 6 times in between. Losing to the eventual state champ all six times by some very narrow margins.

Good stats 3wishes! It's also noteworthy that Russell plays in a much weaker district than Rockcastle.

I think Rockcastle is the strongest team – they’re exactly the kind of team that Russell would have trouble with (Rock has the best linemen that I saw last year). Rockcastle also has the best winning record – in a tougher district.

I think these factors out weigh Russell’s better facilities, tradition and fan support arguments.

Rockcastle is in a better district now, but through the 70's, 80's and early 90's team like Belfry, Lawrence Co., Sheldon Clark to name a few were in the same district as Russell. Outside of Bell Co. who else has competed at high level of football in their district over the last 30 years?

Your factors that you are out weighing are not warranted for me IMHO.

Russell should get this hands down, period.

That’s your opinion, and you are certainly entitled to it.

However, this poll would seem to indicate that not everyone shares your opinion.

And how many state titles did those teams win during the time they were in Russell's District? 0. Bell County did win a AAA title in '91 at least. So your point about those programs being more difficult than Rockastle's district in the same time frame is a wash in my mind. I might add that I know for years in AA Rockastle was losing close battles to Danville at their Peak and Boyle on their rise during the playoffs or they may have done more damage (just like your citing the 6 semi-final appearances).

I don't think anyone on here is begrudging the great tradition that Russell has it's the "attitude" that comes across by restating that last line over and again.

It's not "hands down" obvious to anyone that sits outside of the sphere of Russell fandom or Rockastle fandom (which is where I am because I have respect for both programs but can't say I'm a fan of either.)

Also though Russell had 29 years between state titles.

1978-2005=27Years.

Didn't you go to the academic rich Russell?????:D

Exactly, Hatz. I respect both programs but to say that this one is not even close in favor of Russell is an example of having blinders on. For those of us who remember Rockcastle back in its infancy, we have a lot of respect for what Rockcastle has done in the last 15-20 years.

I am amazed that Russellville doesn't have more votes. They won three state titles (1990, 1983, 1980) which is one more than both Russell and Rockcastle County combined. They have six championship game appearances, which is two more than Russell and Rockcastle County COMBINED. They also have one of the most historical stadiums in the state and were a dominating Class A team in the 1950s and 1960s along with Murray. The results of this poll are almost as bad as people voting Owensboro Catholic ahead of Owensboro. Some people need to do their homework and get out and see more of the state.
